Paranoid To Trade

So with the recent bans and some of my guildies being banned, I have become too afraid to trade. Even my friends that were unbanned are too afraid to trade. Two of my friends got banned for receiving "duped" items for free from a fellow guildmate. These "duped" items were 34 linen and 39 victory tokens (from different people). So the fact that Anet banned them for accepting free items from a guildmate has made me to scared to trade. Now, one of my friends is quiting and plans to give away free stuff. But i feel Anet may just ban us for accepting the stuff and say it was duped or purchased with real money.

Apparently they were careful with who was banned. They didn't simply ban people who received duped items, but instead, the people who received a mass of duped items. If your friends knew what they were getting, then sorry, but they did deserve it. If they were wrongfully banned, then send a ticket, and things will be fixed.

With a major exploit like this, the only way to keep the economy under control is to be harsh.

So i guess 34 bolts of linen is a mass amount of duped items? Also, who would dupe linen in the first place. What i'm saying is that Anet was not careful enough. The unbanning proves that they made mistakes even though they said they were extremely careful.

Also how could people tell they were receiving duped items? Theres no big sign that says "This item is duped".

Were you present for this trade of 34 bolts of linen?

If they are innocent I feel for them, but people haven't been banned unless they've been flagged for dealing in a sized amount of duped stuff. Whether that be from their own accounts or "gifts" from friends.

This is true. Two X Knives Style is in my guild. Just after remaking our guild to accommodate the loss of our leader and two officers due to the bannings, I tried to trade him a sigil for our new guild hall that he was almost too paranoid to take. Especially from me, since I had already been banned, even though I have now been proven innocent.
We are now so paranoid about trade almost everyone I know is now trading one gold for items given to them in hopes that logs won't show a one-sided trade.

I personally will be too afraid to trade with strangers for a very long time. If I can't buy or sell it to a trader, it won't be happening. Is this the atmosphere we want for our game? To live in fear of getting banned for doing something normal?

You can put this in the "stop your crying" category, but the threat is real. How can I say this? Because I was banned to receiving 34 pieces of linen, and no I'm not lying and I'm not joking. And no, they weren't duped. I got them from someone who had duped items on their account in a one-sided trade. He was my guildie and I needed linen. He had some he didn't want and so he gave it to me. Nothing out of the ordinary there. And yet if I hadn't sent in several support tickets insisting my that I was innocent and that they made a mistake, ANET may have very well just taken my account without even flinching. And they make us feel as though we should be grateful for getting it back, with no apology issued even though the mistake was on their part. The only apology I've even seen issued was one received by someone whose account was banned in complete error. And mine wasn't? Since when is taking linen from a guildie against policy?

Actually yes i was present. In addition, in the email received back from Anet it said you had 34 duped items on your account. So i guess 34 is a HUGE amount n worth banning over. Only later to realize that they made a mistake and unban them. Anet seems to be going with the ban now fix it later belief.

Obvously we got some people thinming that Guild Wars economy was effected by this in a bad way hmm tell me Having gotten a Tormented weapon is a bad thing? Having gotten Ectos for cheap is a bad thing?
Its all items that are not worth what MERCHANTS they are worth every singe 1 person who brought up Economy to this is just a MERCHANT who is afraid he wont get load of gold from selling ectos or any other items eh. Economy 1 its ingame its fixable and especialy when it didnt suffer at all i didnt see bone dragons going for 2k or Ectos being give away for free either I dont see rare materials and golds dropping in price either or Ember and Jedite going for 50gp.
If a tormented weapon lost couple k from its price it doesnt mean economy suffered blow and since what point in time when players get items cheaper and have somehtign to show off is a bad thing eh?

Just couse now your not the only person who got that Tourmented shield and not the only 1 who got FoW armor eh?

That has IMHO saved the economy from a massive recession, if they hadn't have acted as swift as they did the situation would have been a lot worse. It might have even led to a roll back.

You can see why they would have to look at all transactions from a dupe ridden account to another account. No matter how small. This is why the account would have been flagged.

You have you accounts back now, and you didn't get to play guild wars for a day.

I've been trading all the way through this and haven't been banned.

There is a girl in a topic below on Riverside who was banned for NO REASON whatsoever. How is that being careful? She just got her account back, but still, how is that careful. They are making too many mistakes and wronging people who have done nothing. We are trying to inform you all, and you can believe what you want to believe, but the proof of ANET's recklessness is there if you chose to entertain the fact that GW isn't perfect.
I'm not at all anti-GW. I love GW. I'm just trying to help make you all aware of a real problem happening within the GW community, whether you chose to accept it or not people like you are being banned without any real reason.

Unfortunately unless your that person there is no way of knowing the whole truth of the situation.

Chances are people have unknowingly and unwittingly been involved in a trade with a duper and their account has been flagged up.

This was a fast harsh measure to save the economy from total meltdown.

But as you said this person got her account back after a full check was done.

If your innocent you have nothing to worry about, you'll get your account back.

LMAO. Sure whatever you say, buddy. Even if you don't believe my reason, I was banned for something not worth banning. I was proven innocent and got my account back.

It took me three days and not one. And I have no reason to be saying all of this if I weren't trying to tell you something about the state of the way things are in the game right now. You can disbelieve the rest, I don't really give a crap, but leave here with the MESSAGE.

-ANET is being too careless. People are getting wrongfully banned. Does this seem like a huge burden to you? Probably not, but a company is making people fight for something they should rightfully have because of a mistake that company made. This is the message. Not the exmaples in between.

We don't have the database, we can't help you, most of us don't believe you when you say it was for "no reason". Talk to ANET, there's nothing anybody on this forum can do for you.

If you were caught in the mass ban until they identified you as an innocent victim of the duping, it's inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world. They reinstated people who appeared to have received the dupes unwittingly, that's enough. It sucks for the time you were banned, but it would have sucked a lot more if they hadn't shut down the dupe item spreading, the economy collapsed, and they had to do a rollback to remove all the dupes later on.

I don't think anyone here is asking for your help. This is a discussion thread, is it not?

I didn't say I don't believe your reason. You had your account reinstated so I hope anet did a full check and found that you unwittingly dealt with a duper without knowing.

Sorry I know this is a selfish comment to make but lets say for arguments sake 5% of players being flagged for dealing with a duper knowingly or unknowingly, then the truely innocent ones are cleared and have their accounts reinstated after a few days is better than the dupers getting more time to wreck the economy even further and causing a roll back for every guild wars player. Effecting everyone.

I feel for you, that you couldn't use guild wars for 3 days even though you haven't actually done anything, those checks needed to be done to make sure you were innocent.

The bans will have been an automatic thing flagging all accounts that need checking. No one personally decided to ban you.

If you still feel upset then email support with your official complaint. Posting about it won't change anything.

What the hell rollback has to do with anything its not real economy poeple its a pixel with a code its easy to delety all dupes Rollback will just hurt othe rpoeple who didnt even know about dupes at all 100 of thopusands of hours of gametime will be like destroyed you know i dotn wana go get that again i got it i worked why would i waste my time to do it AGAIN Rollback is not an opption economy not only it isnt reall it also didt suffer anything

O_o no one was talking about the economy. This thread is geared more towards the unjust bannings and what effect its gonna have on the players.

Economy i agree about not tlakin but as it was brought up the reason for BANNINGS was to keep the ECONOMY UBNDER CONTROl acording to this person my post was towards that person and yes i am scared of trading same like you but i never tradet before its not much diferent to me as of felling sad for all the people i know i wouldnt want to get banned when i never tradet before or had anythign to do with dupping in the first place

I feel like a little bit of a broken record in saying this and I'm not trying to be rude, but I KNOW posting this isn't going to directly change anything. I am fully aware of that. I am simply trying to share information from a perspective from someone who has been through the banning wringer.
The fact that I and my guild mate are trying to illicit a discussion and NOT ask for help seems to be alluding some folks.
I happen to know that Two X Knives Style is not the only player I know who is now too paranoid to trade.

The unjust banning of players was a measure to save the economy so its directly related to this thread.

You got your accounts back. like I said, if you want to make an official complaint about it and wish to receive some correspondence from anet regarding your account ban then contact them! Email your official complaint!

As far as I know all the innocent parties that have lodged a complaint have recieved their accounts back. Please post a screenshot of recent users selling armbraces for 10k. I've only seen people attempting to buy them at that price.

-Should buying unidentified gold items from a bot be a bannable offense? Since 99% of the bots sell to the merch as part of their programming I've never heard of this type of banning before.

It makes me feel safe because if someone manages to scam a user especially new users to the game there is evidence to ban the scammer.

About the uneasy trade thing being monitored well ups you know what poeple are trading for downs well if you overprice the item and person knows its overpriced they right away think you are a scammer and report this blah blah blah and the monitors will see it was based upon fact but

Person B-'ill buy it ill buy it'

Now the montiros during the trade will think the person is scamming othe erperson in telling the lie about the pelt while the costumer who buys it actualy buys it by his own will and not being lied to. So what Monitors will think ban that dude for being a scammer while the seller not knowing what the pelts are for thiks it s a reasonable price and thus just because of porr knowaldge of the items price a person gets banned tell me is that worth being monitored or there shuld be other way?
