What are the benefits of ascension?

ascension will port you to a new area (after you've done the dragon's lair mission). benefits for myself for this new area:
1) access to the snow area which has mobs with elite skills i wanna capture
2) another set of towns with skill trainers
3) better runes (?)
additionally the post-ascension area has a couple goodies that will help on the pve side while you're there:
1) armor merchant with end-game armor rating
2) another 15 attribute points (on top of the 15 attribute points that begins with the forgottens quest from pre-ascension) to make pve'ing a little easier [i think the quest is in the snow area...haven't done the research yet]

Yes, it is, but very unlikely. You'd need a full group of 20s with some VERY good skills, equip, and teammwork to pull it off. In fact, its easier to ascend than to run through Lomar's Pass.
