Does Obsidean Armor still hold a place of respect and status cred?

When I first started playing, I used to see people in (what I used to call) FOW armor and think "sweet they must be an ace player", because Obsidean armor held a place of respect in my view.

It was the most expensive set you could get, and would either take hours of collecting drops from the FOW and UW and/or ours of saving up to buy the materials.

Something which in my view, gave it credibility. That and it was fairly rare to see people in it.

My question is, does Obsidean armor still hold that feeling of respect and grandure about it?

Do people see someone in FOW armor and think "Nice one" or do they think "Bah, I bet their just rich"?

I ask because i've just decided to take the plunge into saving up for the armor. I've every other end game set already, but I dont feel complete unless I have the FOW end game stuff.

Im not too bothered what people think, and I plan to just save up and not farm the drops. But because it will take a while to save up, it would be nice to think people will stop and look after all the effort.

But something else I realised, is that it isnt going to be quite as expensive as I thought. Its not hard to make gold anymore, and the rare materials are only 3-6k each.

It kind of removes the Ore around it once you realise its not quite as hard to get as you imagined. And alot more people wear it now. You see an elemental in Ob. armor once a day now, compared to rarely months ago.

So what is the general census about FOW/Obsdiean armor and its status cred?

If one wears FoW armour, he / she is rich. That's it.

Could be a patient farmer, could be a long time player, could be an "ebay customer". All it tells to me is that the person is rich.

Same as drunkards, sweet teeth and similar.

The titles that imply skill for me are Survivor and PvP titles.

Personely i think FoW armor is a thing of status.
And yes some people fought hard to get it so i respect that.
But obsidian armor doesn't show how good you are in the game.
It show that you are crazy enought to spent a lot of money.
It's just the fact that SOME rich people don't show respect for the people with less becouse they have all the game offers.
So they think that they are better that the rest

At the first, excuse my bad english..

When i didn't had Obsidian Armor on my monk i had alot of respect for those players. Now i got a set for myself i don't... That's because it isn't that hard. For example: It took me 2 weeks trading on Guru Auction to make 1,2 mil profit. I think it only takes respect from people who aren't that rich.

These days titles say more i think, and then i am not talking about 70% carthrogapher, more about the PvP titles with Gladiator en Champion title tracks as the best. Skill Hunter, Vanquisher and Guardian are the best in PvE in my opinion.

BTW: Does anyone knows what armors will be unlockable with Reward Points since you can only see the basic armors and not yet the fancy armors. I hope that Anet didnt made FoW armor and high-end weapons unlockable since the Guild Wars would be screwed for the PvE players..

I've never given it any respect.

But when I actually think about it everyone in FoW armor that I've pugged with has been at least decent (I started playing a few weeks before Sorrows Furnace was added). It could be that the bad players learned how to play well before they got FoW, or it could be that they just learned to avoid grouping with people to avoid being yelled at, but I don't really care since the former is good and I don't care about the latter players because they don't effect me.

Don't have any respect or disrespect for people with Obsidian Armour. In my opinion it's pretty ugly for most classes, but if they want to wear it, fine. I'm happy with my 'cheap' 15K Armour.=D

E-bay customers are just so Noob.
Iff you wanne get FoW armor just play the game and have some patience.

And like God Apprentice says Armor is Armor, iff armor costs 900k or 12k in total Armor is Armor
I can play good with max armor value of 1k a piece

For me it was about looks, and IMHO, excluding a few setd like paragon, FoW armor isnt actually good looking, and been replaced mostly by the NF armor sets.

More, with the all armors becoming inscribable, tyrian armors also deserve a second look.

Anyway, excluding the lucky drop or the ebayer, espensive armor is expensive armor and requires time to get it.

I've never really respected people with FoW, indeed, when I see it I always think 'Eeeeewww... You spent a million on *THAT*?'

Tbh, the only things I really respect are intelligent play and builds, and good taste in armour/dye (no, 15k glads with a FoW helm all dyed black won't cut it. Unoriginal, and black's fugly)

When I first saw Fissure of Woe armour.... black, naturally.... my first thought was: "... Ugly armour. Ew." ... Then I saw another whole load of them... especially warrior sets... and thought "Very common ugly armour... ew!" ...

... Then I discovered it is the second most expensive armour in the game (behind Vabbian, hooray)... and I think "What moron would pay that much for such an ugly piece of crap like that?"

I have never been in awe of Fissure of Woe armour and I never will. The only classes that have worthwhile-looking sets as far as I'm aware are Dervishes and Ritualists. Aside from that... No thanks...

Every time I see a necromancer in FoW armour, I can't help but think "Go get yourself a set of 15k Luxon already, you ugly leper!"

The long and the short of it.... how expensive it is will never be worth a thing in my mind. The real worth is in how good it looks... and sadly most FoW armour (in my opinion) looks like total tripe.

I WILL be getting it for my Ritualist though.... assuming I ever get her off Shing Jea Island.

I like all mine, I don't care about other people's armour/weapons yadda yadda yadda, unless I know them or they're friends. Then I decide how I can help them get theirs, if they want it. Threads such as these provoke jealousy, flames and ebay-arguments.

I respect people who are polite, patient and eager to adapt. Anything else is nothing of importance to me.

Meh, I was aiming for FoW for my ele, just because it's one of the best sets. I got it, and I'm happy. I also have a few other pieces on various chars. It isn't that impressive tbh, I got FoW just because I hated all the other ele armors. It used to be a status symbol WAYYY back before Gold Sellers and before people were as rich as they are now. Now, FoW is easy to get, and doesn't hold much respect, except for players who are putting in the hard yards to get it.

Never been bothered with FoW armour. Not even bothered with with other people who wear it. I spend my time on GW actually playing not wanting to all excited that some wammo is wearing FoW. Guess there's nothing wrong with it if that's what you want, but for me, its just another (very expensive) set of armour. nothing more nothing less

I believe FoW armour is a symbol of status similar to that of having titles. During those times when there was no titles FoW armour and Hero emotes were the only way to display your status.
