After I click on the X to close the game, my Windows Media Center launches for some reason. I am not accessing the game through windows media center, I access the game using a shortcut on my desktop.

I'm not sure I can help much since I've had very little experience with Vista, but by any chance is your WMC icon near the upper-right hand corner of your desktop?

No it isn't even on my desktop or taksbar, you have to go into the startmentu to open windows media center.

Try checking with Microsoft's Knowledge Base to see if there are any other reports of any applications launching on the closing of another.

Unless someone around here with more experience with Vista has some more insight to share, I'm not sure that there's much that we can do to help out with this. Ultimately you may have to contact Microsoft's tech support to fix this.

Sounds more like a media center bug or misconfiguration detecting full screen streaming 3D video from the guild wars program and auto-launching itself to improve performance, even though you're just closing guild wars. Not really sure though. I would try checking for any updates related to media center or going through the configuration settings to prevent auto-launch type settings.

Do you have this enabled by any chance?

Using Windows Media Center Editon, with his switch, Media Center launches when gw exits

Usage: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -mce

Mine is doing the same thing. Vista Ultimate. Use GW.exe shortcut on desktop to launch. When I exit game, MC launches. Very annoying. Let me know if you found a resolution.

Hmm, I have found that it does not launch if you use the GW.exe icon in your directory folder instead of desktop shortcut.

Still, it'd be pretty annoying if you can't use your desktop shortcut...

Wow, I never would have thought it was that easy.
Windows must add an extension to the shortcut on the desktop to open it in Media Center. Obviously that's rediculous.

Simply right click on the GW shortcut icon located either on your desktop or quick launch bar, and select properties. In the target line, remove "-mce"

All fixed.

I have had the exact same problem for the last 4 weeks despite the fact I have been running Vista 64 Ultimate for the last 12 months. I t has to be an issue with a guild wars update, for it to hapen all of a sudden - but its really p****ing me off

all you need to do is remove -mce from the shortcut url.. right click, properties and delete -mce.

from the GW shortcut? I used to have this problem, it never drove me to insanity but I noticed it's gone now that I rebuilt the computer after a HDD Phailure.

Hmmm yes - its down to the -mce shortcut !!!

with hindsight Id rather have media centre launching, rather than having to type my password on GW each time - lol
