Irritating sound problem.

I would try just installing the updated driver then, it will most likely replace what you're currently using anyway, windows has a habit of doing that.

What language is your computer using by the way?

I have this problem! I posted a while ago about it but to no avail. A temporary fix for me was to turn off all the in-game surroundsound options, this buyms as I have expensive surround sound on my pc

but any help would be great for me too.

That's been my experience, too - tho it happened shortly before HM was implemented. It was after the last major patch prior to HM (and referenced somehting to do with sound drivers somewhere, but I can't locate the reference.)

The first fight (or two if they're small) I get severe lag, and the sound is like an echo. Then, it seems to adjust and I'm pretty much good to go from that point on. (Provided I didn't get ganked in the meantime!) It's a bit annoying right now because I'm using Aggressive Refrain and GFTEs together, and I can't get it to respond before I lose my Aggressive Refrain.

I was about to do that but now i have a question: Is it for Vista?I run into the name alot in the folder, and im on an XP.

If you have a dutch version of windows XP, then perhaps the driver I have linked isn't recognized, since it was the english version. You're probably gonna have to go to the asus site and select dutch where it says language towards the top of the screen. On mine it says Deutsch as the closest match.

Then you're going to have to select

motherboard (in Dutch)

click on search after that, and when it comes up with all the drivers on the next page, click on latest, then find your audio driver listed in there. In the description it will say this, except in dutch.

There is no dutch version, but i think you just got the whrong driver since i think that only means the language in wich the page is displayed, not the language of the driver. Perhaps it was just the whrong driver..

Well, your free to look for it yourself on their web site for what driver you need. As for the driver, that's what audio card is integrated on your motherboard, Realtek ALC880/882 Audio Driver.

Ah, i just looked over the list you posted earlier, wich one did you link to?The one at the top?I suspect it might not have been the european download, if so there we have oure problem.

Ok that one just mutilated my sound terribly. Where is my original driver or the unupdated version of it?You know..the one i had before?

EDIT: Wait cancel that, il kick myself in the butt after i did some testing.

Turns out there was a problem with my sound settings, the driver works fine.

But it didnt solve the sound problem.

On that driver provided from Asus, I think you were installing it wrong. If you open up the zip folder (ALC880_882_Vista_6015350), open up the realtek folder, open up the 32bit folder, open up the 2k_XP folder, then double-click the setup.exe file located in there, it should setup your updated drivers.

Worked on my system running XP, even though that's not what drivers I have.

Also, if that still doesn't resolve the problem, I would try forcing direct sound. If you right click the guild wars shortcut, then change the path to look something like

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -dsound

Is the sound like a really loud "snow" like what happens on a TV?

If so, that used to happen to me. I ended up getting a new PC because of that and the deterioration of my system despite my best efforts to resolve it.

Sorry i can't be of help, but i hope you find a fix.

This worked for some people i know. The sound engine got changed at some point and anet stopped using directsound. This fixed sound issues for some and created new ones for others. If your sound used to be fine a couple of months ago, then -dsound should solve your problem.

Nah, the TV thing is more "Kghrrrrrgggg" mine is more "Bzzzt", well not realy..more like a honking of one of those massive American trucks but thats the best i can decribe it, never herd such a sound before.

Nothing appears to happen..do you mean setup or Asussetup?
