The Lockpick Revolution Begins!

Well I mentioned in another thread how we should start using lockpicks as currency instead of ectos. Well a couple of nights ago I made that suggestion to some of my guild mates on vent and our guild leader has already started the revolution! He's been trading stuff for lockpicks and I'm about to jump on the bandwagon.

Hopefully ectos will go up a little so I can sell the few that I have and start buying lockpicks.

We figured lockpicks should be valued at 1200gp which is the merchant sell price in a controlled Factions towns. That way if you need coins you can sell them for 1200-1300gp each and possibly make a little profit. Selling them for that price shouldn't be a huge problem considering the demand for these things.

I know a few people have had nothing but positive things to say about this idea. Obviously most people are going to stick with the tried and true ecto, but I personally am sick of the unstable value of ecto and want something more stable. I thought about using black dyes too, but even those are are extremely unstable right now for whatever reason.

The big bonus for me is that lockpicks actually have a use but I've never wanted FoW so I'll never use my ecto for anything other than trading.

Anybody else thinking about jumping on the bandwagon?

So don't get mad at me if I bid on your high end item with 100k+lockpicks!

They have a fixed value. If suddenly every player in GW bought 200 lockpicks from the merchant, they would STILL cost 1,500g. If everyone bought ectos, rare mat trader runs out, prices SOAR. Suddenly 3000 W/Rts farm them, novody wants them, prices plummet.

Not a bad idea rlly

Very self serving idea for those that control Faction outposts with access to discount merchants.

Remove biased access to merchants that sell them @ 1200 gp. Otherwise it's giving market control to a few dolts that have control of a town, be it a Luxon outpost or Kurzick.

BAD IDEA.

Great idea. Market stability for Lockpicks is amazing.

I'll start to venture into making large money transactions with it as currency. However, I'm going to keep my money in diamonds until GW:EN.

Considering that people no longer need ferries to get to elite missions, I don't think that it's such a bad idea for guilds that work hard at faction farming to get some benefit beyond just having their name on a town anymore. Maybe this can bring a bit more life back to Factions. I like the idea.

Hmm I like the idea, as said, might give Factions it's life back somewhat. Most missions aren't possible to get Master w/o help of friends.

The party search thingy should go global or at least campaign wide, so you could know where people are at and whats going on.

It has it's pro's and con's but atm I like the current prices.

Arenanet shouldn't up the limit above 1000k in storage and 100k a char. There's absolutely no need to carry more. But the picklock idea works wonderful and theres ways to get access to the discount shops. Ask a friend who controles a town. And atm it is not that hard to control a town imo, since most guilds can farm about 100k easy a day.

ill def. be doing this. as a player who doesnt farm often, this will motivate me to wanna trade more and use the lockpicks so i can finally raise my treasure/wisdom titles. I just the lockpicks in the hard mode missions all the time, and maybe it might push me to actually do chest runs.

I'd support the idea but i don't have any money right now. When i get some, i will invest in them. I just hope Anet doesn't suddenly drop the merchant value and wipe out half the games excess gold, lol.

How about using Clothes. Lol

Anyway, if this revolution does take place, factions will be alive and all the guilds will ab everyday.

Lock at merchant is at 750g, so, i do not know if it will work.
