and if the release date is also a guess, then its probably fair to say the price is also a guess, though the price seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Well, I'm a little bit more inclined to believe something like this. Especially when everything from the Inquirer article turned out to be true...

Bah... Every site/store that sells games makes up release dates for EVERY game. Its not official until I hear it from A.net. Duke Nukem Forever release date of Dec 2004 anybody?

Answer right there. No date is official unless A.net says so.

There are a few websites like eb that show the Aug. 27th date. They've been up for about a month. I agree that it's all hear-say until Anet makes the announcement, although GW:EN is supposed to be shown at the Penny Arcade Expo (Aug. 24-26) and then be released soon after.

Yeah! I don't ever trust anything unofficial. Like remember that Inquirer article people got so hyped up over? Boy do they look silly now that we know everything in it was false.

Coming from a Gamestop employee:

The release date in Gamestop and EB's computers is an estimated release date.
The reason they put estimated release dates for far-off games in their system is so that the game is at least IN their system.
This, of course, allows them to begin taking reserves for the game.

It's very simple. They can't begin taking reserves on a game until it has a SKU in the system, and a game won't have a SKU in the system until it is placed in there and given a release date (they can't set the date to "pending" or anything like that, it has to be a real date).

Of course, that date is subject to change when an official announcement is made. It's just an estimated date.
What that date DOES tell us is that Gamestop/EB thinks the game will be released earlier (September-ish) in the fall rather than later (say, November-ish).
My guess would be September, but we'll have to wait and see.

Also, for the record, there isn't a CE in the system yet, only the regular game priced at $39.99. The CE won't be put in the system for reserve until it has been officially announced (assuming they release one, that is).

ANet, in interviews, has stated they will be showing GW:EN at the PAX which ends Aug. 26th. It's likely that is where the date estimate for the online stores came from; the day after the show ends.

And, the next weekend - Sept 1-3 - is the Labor Day 3-day weekend.

Or how about Starcraft: Ghost? When was it supposed to be released? 4 years ago? Then it got pushed back a year, then another six months, then another six months, then another year, then all of a sudden Blizzard is "intrigued by the next-gen consoles" and will wait to see about producing the game for them.

Damn skippy it is, at least in the Netherlands. Just try getting any work done during that month with anyone. Most of the people I know there take a solid 4 weeks off that month!

What information? If anything, the OPs post is speculation. Its a know FACT that sites like this make up their own release dates.

Speculation threads exactly like this one come up for every GW game and they are always just as pointless each time.

Gaile has said a million times that if the info is not from Anet then don't believe it because it may very well be false. Anet will tell you the release date when they know what it is.

Heh, I gave up on waiting for DNF way before Dec. 2004 came around. It's sad that there are still die-hard Duke fans clinging to the 3D Realms forum feeding off of whatever little scraps of info George Broussard & Co. toss them. DNF was originally promised to be released 2 or 3 years after Duke Nukem 3D came out in 1996.
