Coming from a Gamestop employee:
The release date in Gamestop and EB's computers is an estimated release date.
The reason they put estimated release dates for far-off games in their system is so that the game is at least IN their system.
This, of course, allows them to begin taking reserves for the game.
It's very simple. They can't begin taking reserves on a game until it has a SKU in the system, and a game won't have a SKU in the system until it is placed in there and given a release date (they can't set the date to "pending" or anything like that, it has to be a real date).
Of course, that date is subject to change when an official announcement is made. It's just an estimated date.
What that date DOES tell us is that Gamestop/EB thinks the game will be released earlier (September-ish) in the fall rather than later (say, November-ish).
My guess would be September, but we'll have to wait and see.
Also, for the record, there isn't a CE in the system yet, only the regular game priced at $39.99. The CE won't be put in the system for reserve until it has been officially announced (assuming they release one, that is).

Speculation threads exactly like this one come up for every GW game and they are always just as pointless each time.
Gaile has said a million times that if the info is not from Anet then don't believe it because it may very well be false. Anet will tell you the release date when they know what it is.
