I decided to do the first mission in Tyria in hard mode. I went out with 3 heroes because its a 4 party mission. I had a little difficulty killing the first Grawl Udolyte but did it ok in the end. The fact that his health bounced around wildly made using the Signet of Lost Souls a hit and miss affair. The funniest part was when I got to the first oil slick area where the grawls fight mergoyles. All that was left was 3 Udolytes fighting the mergoyle boss, who they killed. It has always been difficult to kill the healers with a party of 8, it is ludicrous with a party of 4. LOL

One way I found to kill mass casters is to feint a retreat, bunch them up, BHA and epidemic them. Then sit a physical on each one. That's kind of difficult when you need to 4 man though.

I guess smiting and interrupting the healers is required here. But the fact that the result of the monsters fighting each other shows an imbalance that makes one think did anyone play test this hard mode thing.

I heard interrupting doesn't work so well anymore since mostners cast faster now.

And in HM, the foes run faster now too so by the time my other team-mates made it to the gates the Charr had already caught up, it was pretty crazy but exciting at the same time.

EDIT: It looks like Mesmers are back in the show!

And I'm sure they just programmed it all and never played or tested any of it.

oddly enough, I went to grab a snack just before entering that oil-slick area. When I came back it was the grawl that were dead, so I had to pick away at the hords of gargoyles. Managed easily enough, though I am sure I understand your difficulty with three Ulodytes. The healing just never ends. Which reminds me, when you go to take on the Oversears in the next mission's bonus, be sure to bring an interupter (or scourge healing as was noted above).

Running back... Is it just me, or did the charr get faster? I saw them gaining on me rather quickly. So in order to slow them down, Koss and crew offered to fall on the old sword, so that I could get the message to Captain whatsisname. Worked well enough. Thank goodness for flags.

I also thing Scourge Healing could come in handy - or what about Malign Intervention or Defile Flesh...with a Rit keeping Earthbind up with Soul Twisting and an earth ele stacked with knockdowns.

It seems that disabling the hard mode mobs will be the key to defeating them. Mesmers may come in very handy in the future...finally my mesmer could have a use! Diversion ftw?

I normally go fight them and forgot it was hard mode so by habit I made a move at them *remembered quickly enough as my friends were laughing at me.*
Hit sprint and they were still gaining on me.
I knew I should have brought [skill]charging strike[/skill]

Mesmers have finally been given the status they deserve. More people will consider them for partys now

Monsters fight each other in normal mode, do you mean like 2 charr fighting? Maybe they don't like each other

I defeated them easily.

My character:
R/Rt Splinter Barrage (Insanely good damage now!)

Heroes:
SS Necro (anti-melee mostly but it works wonders in the early missions in HM)

in fort ranik where you come across the two charr healers next to deeter saberlin my group (consisting of a burning arrow/epidemic ranger, HB monk, axe tank, and degen/anti melee mesmer) it prolly took us a good 10-20 minutes to kill em both since they never pull apart and spam heal area and worse yet....sheild of judgement =( and yeah those charr got uber fast...they got innate speed buffs or something (maybe a hint towards gw2 since you can play as a charr) my team except the tank with sprint and storm chaser got whiped.....ive never seen that lol....i love hard mode XD
