ANet also knows how few players visit the guildwars.com website on anything like a regular basis. Most fan forums give all the required info in their updates, so a poll on the company website would probably be relatively unnoticed. (As an example, the Zaishen Tournament House Winterfest Predictions garnered so few participants that we who did participate were rewarded just for making a prediction.)
Additionally, you seem to believe that ArenaNet's request for input denotes a lack of marketing awareness on their part. Instead, it is just ANet's usual (and very appreciated) business practice of involving fans in decisions.

I would vote for toys hands down. But only if you could get Tod McFarlane to do them. Those have got to be the best Collectable action figures ever made.

If you could get Main characters from the Prophecies story line(i.e. Mursat, Titan, Glint), I'd buy em all.

Any type of apparel (primarily shirts) is good. High quality world maps also get my vote, as I don't want to buy a CE primarily just for the awesome map (and in this way you may sell more world maps than you would if they were only packaged in the CE. This might even perhaps bring in more income than the CEs, though I'm not sure about that).
Posters are also good, of characters or something maybe (how about posters of the trademark characters on the boxes? Eve, Vizu, etc).
I also vote for mousepads, as they are also useful and will make GW addicts like myselves' computers look like what they are used for!
Ohhh, and plushies! My little brother is still into Beanie Babies, and I would love a plushie ettin (if you make the expression on its face nice) or Glint!
I have a suggestion, too:
How about giftcards or something that can be used to buy things from the online store? This opens up many ideas, like maybe cards that come with a keycode - enter it in the game, and you will unlock a random special weapon, emote, or something like that.

Gaile...you asked us to post only if we really would buy stuff and I did post, seriously wanting to buy merchandise. However, this was before this godforsaken change on soul reaping ruined (in my view) my favourite class of which I have 3 characters.
Now the truth is, and anybody can call me childish or think it's me trying to blackmail the devs (as if I had any chance of doing that as a single ant in the legion of GW players), but the truth is that it has turned me off to the point where I retract my statements because at the moment I am on the verge of giving up on necro's altogether and with it my appetite for merchandise is also gone.
So not to make a big whine here but I did want to be fair to you as you wanted, I'm sure, to use this poll and responses in your calculations for merchandising, to take me out of the calculation please.

Hmm... *Forgot what the options were, goes back and checks*
Action figures, plushies, and sweatshirts. Yes. Those would be nice. A few Margonites and Varesh spelling out "You Suck" on my computer table... wait, that would take a lot of them. Maybe I'll stick with the Margonites and Varesh just standing there. A Dune Lizard plushie curled up next to a Flesh Golem (yes, I think they are adorable) plushie on a GW sweatshirt that has a funny GW-related phrase on it...

Plushies, clothing, action figures and computer accessories would be really neat. Maybe add a Atlus of the world of Tyria that includes detailed maps of the land with creature data and lore of each explorable area with concept art or something would also be a cool buy(A hard cover book of the sorts).

then we can buy our faves.
