You need to provide a little more information before anyone can help you:

1. What campaign have you started in?
2. Which campaigns do you own?

I used to be an E/R.... *Sigh*, those days are over.

Well, I eventually dropped the build. Here's why; When reading the manual I thought to cover up the Elementalists weak attack power with the Ranger. What I found out is that when you put all your points into Energy Storage, in the end, you don't need a good normal attack. You have soooo much energy you can just keep casting all the live long day.
I'm not saying E/R is bad, I'm just saying that it isn't my choice.

But if you would like to stick to E/R heres my suggestions.

Whatever Element you use, do this thing right here.

Steps:
1. Put a bowstring on your bow that corrisponds with your Element. (Fire, Cold, Earth, Shocking)
2. Put Conjure <Insert Element here> and <Insert Element here> Attunment, this will increase the damage you do with your elemental bow and reduce the cost of you <Insert Element here> skills.
3. Concentrate your skill points on your element and Marksmanship. Pets aren't just worth it.
4. Battle on! Kick butt, do missions and do your thing but remember; shooting arrows may be nice, but also consider having a Nuker build with lots of AoE benifits.

Hope this helps in any remore way.

I sometimes play e/r, and started that wat on my first character.
The thing I learned from the beginning was to simply forget the bow - you are going to be doing far more damage with ele skills, and not have the att points to spare on a bow.

I had two "modes". At lower levels I went fire/storage/beastmastery. Pet made a good tank to keep agro off me, and didn't tend to die that much. Carried charm/comfort/pounce.

At higher levels I went fire/storage/wilderness survival. Serpants quickness was brilliant, and troll unguent a much better self-heal.

Leave the bow and the pets at home, the only thing I would consider is using SQ from your secondary...
