Just like how the last Cantha event of the Dragon festival and the appearance of those rift portals and Lesser Grasp of Insanity. What hints can we find that might be part of Ch.4?
Does the Nian have anything to do what's coming up next?

The Nian appear to have no relation to anything different than we've already seen....
However if you look at a Nian in the game, thats a totally new monster in form and shape, plus its for 1 quest only. Just like that quest in Kamadan over Wintersday...it seems like an awful lot of work for 1 quest.
The nian in this event could have simply been called that in this, and in reality be something from the next campaign...who knows?

Nian - Canthan New Year
Nian
"Stone Guardian" Family (Note: Stone Soul has no image available on Wiki.)
Temple Guardian
Stone Reaper
Stone Rain
Stone Crusher
Duncan, Feme: I see no resemblance to any of the "Stone Guardian" family compared to the Nian. The only thing that it resembles is the Asian-feel of it. It does seem like a bunch of detail doesn't it Gilga? Very detailed creature for just ONE event and quest..
Perhaps he is right. Why wouldn't ANET do this at least one more time to give a bit of a hint to the players? Yes, I know, it is Asian feel and why would they do that again so soon. But, who isn't to say it won't be a type of creature encountered?
Never dismiss something ANET does during a event, mainly if that Nian is so detailed like it is.

Skin is not very relevant. The greater amount of effort is in animating new models, thats a crapton of work. We had that polar bear and reindeer before, now we have this. It's four legged and its body proportions are all different, meaning new skeleton and new animations.
The model could easily be from a charr-related creature, which are related to lions in the first place.

The quest had nothing to do with guild wars lore and was only a parody of a Sketch from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
We are the Knights who say NI!
ARTHUR:
Knights of Ni, we are but simple travellers who seek the enchanter who lives beyond these woods.
HEAD KNIGHT:
Ni!
KNIGHTS OF NI:
Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni!...
ARTHUR:
Ow! Ow! Ow! Agh!
HEAD KNIGHT:
We shall say 'ni' again to you if you do not appease us.
ARTHUR:
Well, what is it you want?
HEAD KNIGHT:
We want... a shrubbery!
[dramatic chord]
ARTHUR:
A what?
KNIGHTS OF NI:
Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni!
ARTHUR and PARTY:
Ow! Oh!
ARTHUR:
Please! Please! No more! We will find you a shrubbery.
HEAD KNIGHT:
You must return here with a shrubbery, or else, you will never pass through this wood... alive.
ARTHUR:
O Knights of Ni, you are just and fair, and we will return with a shrubbery.
HEAD KNIGHT:
One that looks nice.
ARTHUR:
Of course.
HEAD KNIGHT:
And not too expensive.
ARTHUR:
Yes.
HEAD KNIGHT:
Now... go!
