why do more people PvE than PvP??

You do know that you can challenge a Guild that has the same rating as you and isn't ranked.There is a thread in gladiators forum that if you want to challenge a guild then post it.I keep hearing that ABing is PvP it is in away but not the real PvP.

To me PVE is a different mindset than PVP.

PVE is co-op, PVP is win vs lose.
PVE it's possible that all human players win and celebrate together.
In PVP there's a winning and a losing side.... bummer....

I liken PVE as getting together with some people/henches/heroes and having some fun.
PVP is more like psyching yourself up for a boxing match and going into the ring...

Both have their place and depending on your mindset you select one over the other.

My theory...
I'm a PVE only player and I believe that the less competitive and more easy going players tend to gravitate here. It's less pressure and it's co-op.
PVP is for really serious players who thrive on competition and winning. The "I gotta win" attitude. Nothing wrong with that - although it's my observation that PVP is more full of ego that PVE (as other people have noted also)

It's got to do with you as a person, do you want to play competitively or not - PVP or PVE?
End result is the same - you get the same thrill of endorphins in your brain whether you beat an opposing team or get a masters mission done...
Luckily Anet made this game for everyone regardless of choice.

PVE is NOT easy.

- PvE is about problem solving skills. You're givin a problem (the mission), and is expected to solve it with varies tools (skills).
- PvP is about leadership. All it really need is 1 person on the team really knows what's going on and rest of the team follow orders. The most organized team will prevail.

It is true that some people are good with both. But that doesn't make any easier than PvP.

The reason that coop mission were invented wasn't to go and have fun it was to train you for PvP that is why it is called a coop mission.This is so you can cooperate between your guild or others until you are ready for PvPing.It wasn't really intended for just to go and have fun but that has all changed.This why you shouldn't be useing heros in them.

GW was not even started as a PVP game it started life as an RPG with the pvp for after you played the game not the game as training according to JEFF STRAIN

That was the intention on it though and the RPG was just the role you played not like your average RPGs.This is what I heard from some Alpha testers.

lol'ed irl. Which is why I and thousands of other people beat all missions.. including thunderhead keep with henchmen, which don't have varying skillsets, and, also using very subpar skillsets on the characters they ARE playing.

You can solve every "problem" (the mission) in the game, REGARDLESS OF YOUR SKILLBAR, and IDENTICAL HENCHMEN SKILLBARS.

I think it takes different breeds, I have seen some hardcore R9 or better pvpers who can't pve worth anything, yeah you can show me your emote but that doesn't mean squat when you get your team killed in DoA or the like.

I don't think either is "hard mode" just different. It may be harder to find people willing to work together for pvp than in most pve areas but for places like DoA I have found it just as hard, if not harder, to find a good group of players willing to use voice chat and work together. Though I'd much rather get a team together for it than HA, for many of the reasons I stated before.

I figured this would turn into a 'l0lller stupid n000bs think that pve/pvp is hard' kind of thing. Why there is a bickering constantly between the two types of players who rarely meet I may never know or ever understand.

The only PvP I do is GvG, with the occasional bit of HA. Mostly because if I'm going to be doing any PvP, I'd like to do it with people. Since there aren't always enough people for a full team, I tend to spend more time in PvE land, because there isn't a need for other people. TA I find boring, and RA is like trying to do THK solo and non-infused. Pointless and painful.

Honestly, i was goning to ask the opposite. What's the point of fighting people over & over again? Status? Fame? Ego?

Personally, I like playing WITH my friends. I like progressing through something with people. Finding rare items and getting armor that visually fits how I want my character to work. I love fighting games vs, but I'm not to big on RPG vs, unless it's in a totally persistant world where you effect the game ore realm. (Factions doesn't cut it for me in terms of that)

Well, what you're saying there isn't exactly true. You do not need to get into a hardcore pvp guild to get your fame. At least 80% of my fame comes from pugging and forming groups with friends. And most of the time I'm in HA, there's at least 3+ unranked teams forming.

hey this is me, the original poster, and im suprised that people have such strong opinions about game type... lol arnt you supposed to play both :P

anyway i found another reason why I never play PvE after I tried it again because of all the posts hailing it: the HUGE downtime i have after a few measly quests, or even after farming a small amount of mobs due to cleaning out my freaking inventory!

It takes me 30 minutes some times simply doing that. I have to find which inscriptions i want, which i can't use until i have notable armor, which will go on my heroes, what weapons i can throw away, using and buying identifiers and salvagers, if the dye is worth using or putting in my inventory, changing builds of my heroes due to their equipment or something even though it doesn't really matter since they are only 3 out of my party 8 , finding a party if i want to do it with a party.... and so on and so forth, all before i get fired up.

Lol i think PvP is much more casual (note i'm not a high enough level (and rich enough) to hold more items and am not experienced enough to learn the complex skill of efficiently storing and throwing away items).....

I don't enjoy PvP much unless it's an AB. Only AB's have any resemblence of fun and enjoyability.

I PvE because my characters have a life and personality. I put a soul into all of my characters (And I'm always nearly heartbroken when I have to delete one.)
but with PvP, no effort is put into them. BAM max level BAM max items. Where's the fun in that? Ugh.
I have no remorse for my deleted PvP characters. They didn't like me much anyway.

Yep, I have actually gotten to the point where all 8 of my current characters are too successful to delete and I'd be an idiot to do so.

Which sucks, because there's so many other things I want to try and none in my household will be nice enough to shell out 10$, even once a month for a new character slot for me. Bastards. It's cheaper than buying Proph+Fact+NF all over again (150$) for 8 new slots on a new account. Pah!

Its funny, because for me it was really the opposite. I used to pvp quite a bit, but when you get into high/mid-level pvp it can get very stressful. You have to gvg almost everyday, be very careful with your builds, and be subjected to insults involving mistakes you made in the previous battle (I know this can also occur in PvE but in PvP it seemed more brutal to me, plus its a bigger deal to have your own guild put you down than for a random PUG to). It was just too much tension. My life already has stress in it and I didn't need Guild Wars adding to it

Therefore, I went back to my original love, PvE, and found a friendly supportive PvE guild. For me its a lot more relaxing to log on and play cooperatively and casually than to get into an argument about who ruined the split.
