I was wondering the other day what the world map of Guild Wars looks like, with the relative position of all the four continents (Tyria, Cantha, Elona and the Battle Isles). A fellow guildie found out in the past already that you can see the big statues in the Tyria Crystal Desert from the Elona Crystal Overlook, hence the continents Tyria and Elona are in fact connected. Two more hints we get in the Guild Wars Nightfall Manuscripts (which comes with the game):
  • On page 49: "Between the northwest coast of Cantha and the southern rim of Elona, a deadly sea is troubled...".
  • On page 56: "the Battle Isles north of Cantha...".
So, that would mean that the map looks something like shown below (forgive me the poor quality of the picture - I'm by no means a graphical artist).
If you have more info pertaining to this, leave a post.

Cantha should probably be a bit farther west than the map shows. Jatoro Musagi in Kodlonu Hamlet states that he comes from Shing Jea island, which he says lies to the southwest. A bit more vague is the statement from Jiaju Tai in Lion's Arch that Cantha is found to the south.

I updated the OP map to reflect the suggestions. Let me know if you find other inaccuracies. Thanks.

Just my opinion: I would put more space between Elona and Cantha. With Istan that close to the main Canthan port, that hardly seems like a "deadly sea".

Now, the map Thinkler put up looks awesome, but it rasie some questions. What is an arctic land mass doing in the middle of the map? Does that mean, Droks is one of the poles? I realize that science has no place in a game, and much less place in a game of magic. I dunno, just a thought.

Arctic and high altitude aren't necessarily codependent.

those maps look great and all but i think your putting elona to close to tyria and the crystal desert. The mountain ranges don't line up, so maybe put elona down half an inch and have a little more desert then the mountains have room to line up. Looks strange seeing the mountainous Vabbi abruptly stop and turn into desert.

the battle isles are the right size, but they should be a little more to the west on Ruuds map

Actually, I read somwhere that if you correctly line up the maps using the giant statue in the Arid Sea which is visible from Crystal Overlook, then the Tyrian and Elonian continent maps actually overlap, with part of the Thirsty River overlapping into The Desolation.

It's reasonable to assume this is unintended, however you'd have thought Anet's developers would have predicted fanboy's actually taking the time to figure that out, lol.

Tinkler,
Maybe you're right, but I don't think your map is consistent with:

On your map the Cantha northwest coast is west from the southern rim of Elona, instead of east. But maybe I'm mistaking.

I think of the Shiverpeaks as being the game's equivalent to the Himalayas - the lands around it at sea level are subtropical or at least warm temperate (note that Ascalon is described as 'high plains' in one of the timelines, so it's not not sea level, while Kryta is more-or-less sea level) while the Shiverpeaks are cold simply because they're so high up.

Given that Cantha appears to be starting to cool down again (certainly as you go south) but the seasons for Tyria and Elona are the same, I'd suspect that the equator is somewhere between Elona and Cantha - although I'll have to check the lore to see if seasons are specified for Cantha.

EDIT: A quick check on the wiki shows that the Canthan calender does not explicitly state whether the seasons match or are reversed compared to Tyria and Elona, only showing which months fall at the same time as which season in the Tyrian and Elonian calenders.

I have created a post in the sanitarium requesting that NC-Soft do just this. I like the maps though rather good job.

This isn't my map by any means, but I think it's a good depiction of the world map.
