Mallyx Killed: Bad Truth Behind DoA Revealed

(NOTE: Not a thread to discuss how to kill Mallyx. There are other threads for that.)

Today, a German guild killed Mallyx the Unyielding. (although the method which they used is still unknown). Apparently after Mallyx dies, a chest spawns, which gives the Green items.

He apparently drops one for every party member, two of which are pictured:




Do those skins look familiar? Yes!

The Recurve has the skin of an Azure Recurve Bow and the Maul has the skin of an Igneous Hammer.

Mallyx is the most difficult enemy in the entire game, yet he doesn't have unique weapons?! What happened to the art designers who made Kanaxai's Axe and Urgoz's Longbow?

And that's not the worst part.

After Mallyx dies, the "Mallyx the Unyielding" quest is obviously finished. However, there's no fanfare, no true "Elite Mission." But there's one thing:

You get to do the quest again!

What?!

And since the only way to fight Mallyx is through the quest, you must complete each of the 4 areas again just to be able to get more greens!

This is an insult. You get to do the entire Domain of Anguish again. And again. And again. To what extent? We need a Sisphysus NPC...

According to Gaile's Dev Update, this is intended. You get to do DoA until your eyes bleed, you get your Armbraces, then you are happy. I'm not happy.

I am sure that german guild are just very good at photoshop, but not good enough to make new weapon icons

Beating swarms of mobs then fighting Mallyx constitutes an "amazing mission", A.net?

Funny how they just recycled skins for his drops too. You'd think something that difficult would drop something truly unique looking.

You have screen shots of two items, it is possible that at least one of the items he drops does have a unique skin. Kanaxai's axe was unique, but the others were recycled.

Very disappointing

It seems like I won't be revisiting DoA anytime soon.



edit: Meh, I took a closer look at the weapons and it appears they are photoshopped. Note the pixels around the stats of Mallyx's weapons.

Not so sure ,look at the background color over the "Mally'x Maul" green text ,it's like red ,like the above weapon ,but not like the left side of the picture.

and personnaly ,if i drop a new weapon . i will take a many screenshots with a nice character/skin view ,then i post all .(you must be better with photoshop to do this ^^)

Yeah do you have a full list complete with pictures of what he drops? or is it only those two.....

The poster on the thread in EEL said that there were other drops, including a Shield, but no Axe/Sword. Which are basically the most important, besides Bows.

Come on guys, let's be realistic here.

It is only skin. I applaud Anet for taking a departure from what other companies are doing, instead of giving players better and better loot to grind for, they consistently stomp it into your face just how superficial their game is. You only grind for your skin. Rewards in Guild Wars is skin deep, as a game should be.

Bravo Anet! Keep up the good work! I look forward to more "skin depth" chapters in the future

And am i the only player in the game that likes the challenge of things over the loot i get at the end of the challenge?

EDIT: Hang on..i was looking at the text behind the bow's text..that is the trade window font. Why photoshop it if it is though..gonna be found out anyway O_o..maybe it's compression causing that?

Actually, I'm glad that two-thirds of the weapons aren't for one-tenth of the professions. I'm tired of warriors getting all the goodies while spellcasters get left out
