You choose him during Mysterious Message. Then the quest sequence is: (Master of Whispers) Secrets in the Shadow → To Kill a Demon

The only quest in Rilohn Refuge is Drakes on a Plain, and you don't need to finish the mission or recruit Master of Whispers for it. That is incorrect. There is a co-op mission that requires the Master.

Or you can complete the mission with another player who has Master of Whispers. That requires me to find someone that I can tolerate, that works well in a team situation, and isn't going to talk about their "m4d 1337 5k1ll5, y0!" and then turn out to be a dud, and get my char and heros killed

That is incorrect. There is a co-op mission that requires the Master. There is a difference between a quest and a mission. Re-read the post you responded to and note the difference.

Ok, I've searched for this, but was unable to find any answers (though "of" was a bad choice for a search word intially, btw). Anyway, I am in Rilohn Refuge and the co-op mission says I need the master of shadows..however..where the heck do I get him? I've searched just about everywhere, and I"m sure he's probably right under my nose, so to speak, but I am unable to locate him. Anyone able to help?
