One of my favorite features in an mmorpg is the character profile...City of heroes does this. You click on someone and you can select to view their profile which shows whatever story they wrote for their character for all to see.

For role-players this is a great joy to have. It would be GREAT to tell your characters story...I have one for mine that I hope to one day display in-game...

It would be nice, for role-players the most.

Although you'd get like half the people writing in there "I solo UW, don't invite me".

i like this idea, i mean even D2 did it (somewhat) and i feel it would really make this game a little better as long as no one abuses it or anything, i would love to write a story behind every one of my characters...

Yeah D2 had it, and in Neverwinter Nights when you create your character you have the option to write a character history. It was a nice feature to have.

maybe not serious role-playing...but for casual role-players this would be perfect.

It would have been funny if A.Nett made some kind of "personal profile" system people could edit themselfes, and other cpuld see by right clicking on their names or something. lots of other games got that..

Serves no purpose, would take space to store on a computer, would increase load on servers ever so slightly, and most people wouldn't bother with it, what with GW being a PvP centric game, rather than roleplaying.
I say no.

nice idea, but then you get into the rules sets....

group one leaves it with the standard guild wars info
group two makes it blank, wrights stuff like 'dont look at me, play the frikkin game!' ect on it
group three wrights info about their char, ether as if looking at char or just abot their char.

after a while, it degenerates into which group you belong to bitching and gipeing about the others being inferior....i know, i been there with neverwinter...some players used to go to extreeme lengths with player info, others would make a whole page of blank with a nasty "stop looking at me and bloody roleplay!" at the bottom.

aligh, its not *just* a pvp game you know, some players DO roleplay here...like the funeral on Int dist 1 LA for a guildie leaving the game..the roleplayed deceased was there for their own funeral too.

still, a little info like wheather or not they were a pvp only interest player or a pve interest player, wheather they were into gvg only guilds or rp guilds ect would be usefull to get to know a player....perhaps when you made your char in pve, a checkbox affare with a list of boxes you could clock to say what your interests were...usefull for finding likeminded players....i mean, whats the point of being in a group of pvp only pvE chars if your PvE RP?

It's not *just* PvP, but theres far too little stuff in the game for roleplay to be anything but forced. Roleplay as in playing a role, rather than a RPG(ironic, isnt it?).

well at least theres emotes ^^ i used to play a mmo that was called a rpg but all you did was fight, talk or stand about....
roleplaying there was all *talks softly to <character>* or *stands close to <character> and hugs them*

at least its possible to do some stuff here

wouldnt you prefer to be able to click on a charater (like shift+click) and get.....
<Misha Ceruleean>
* PvE preferd - PvP preferd
- GvG guilds * Rp guilds
- PvP guilds * Rp groups

even that much info would help sometimes.....then you know whether or not its worth trying to talk to them...

Simply put, this is an interface screen which the player uses to customize a character's profile, which inturn can be globally viewed by other players in the same instance or town.

Such tidbits for the profile could include, and could be made optional by turning them off or on by the player:

1) The character's image, identical to the one used for inventory
2) A 100 word or less personalized paragraph written by the player for her/his character being viewed
3) The various titles your character has earned, and not just the one you've chosen to show
4) The character's birthplace (Tyria/Cantha/etc...and maybe a dropdown to choose your own town/city where you believe your character was born) and actual birthdate
5) Level, profession(s) and possibly the XP earned by the character
6) Perhaps a simple questionaire with dropdown options about the character's favorite things, such as place to adventure, weapon of choice
7) Display your PvP accomplishments, such as tournaments or events W/L, deaths, kills and awards (or rank)
8) Maybe even a Location to show your actual world origin (Player, not character)

To view someone's profile, right click on the character's name

Some benefits:
1) Able to show others the weapon/equipment your character is using/holding for selling purposes, or for any visual aide thought of
2) Allow others to see what you've written about your character and get to 'know' you before they get to know you.
3) Enrich the feel of the RP aspect if that's your thing, or find the right players for your PUG in PvE or PvP based simply on their presentation (which is already heavily weighed on by how you ask for a group, or how you request others to join your group)

An obvious downside:
Obviously, the server loads. Only allowing a single profile up at a time per player could help this, as well as automatically closing the profile after a minute of inactivity by the character ingame.

Any thoughts or additions/subtractions? I was only brainstorming, so feel free to go hogwild

Oh I agree about not being vital. Just an idea, that maybe could be put in down the road that you take down the road you took down the road to get down that road

I really like the idea, it's one of those basic things that you would just expect to be in it already. Anyway, I tried to knock together a mock image:

I didn't put all your ideas on because I'm lazy, but it should totally be a feature of the game. Obviously this wouldn't be on hover as that would drive people nuts. You say right click and that sounds fine.

I've always wanted something like this. Perhaps it could be linkable, so that you could post it on guild forums etc. Anyway /signed

I have been wanting this for ages now. All RPers unite! Also quite handy when meeting old friends and stuff.

They already have this in City of Villains and City of Heroes. I was always too lazy to think up a back story though. Also, some people were mad that Cryptic Studios (creaters of CoV/CoH) has intellectual property rights over the character created profiles.
