Titles are just that, titles. They're a way for other people to be able to recognize something you did. Anet was generous enough giving us benefits for a couple of them allready.

/Signe for The skill hunter Title, I have that title, and let me tell you, its long, anyoing and costly to achieve. a reduce price for skill is the least they ca do, this IS a title you have to earn.

Other then that /notsigned, title are more to show off.

I was thinking since some titles gives some bonuses in game why not for these titles as well.

So far Wisdom/Treasure hunter gives some PvE bonus and Champion/Gladiator titles increases the limit on Balthazaar faction.
One idea was to increase the limit on Luxon/Kurzick faction to reflect the Champion/Gladiator title.

Another idea is to get a small discount from merchants in Jade Sea/Echovald for each tier in the title. Owning a town does give a good bonus but this would be smaller of course and since Factions is past Campaign this idea is just that, an idea.

What do you guys think? or you got any better ideas?

I'm fairly certain the focus of the programmers is on future chapters, I doubt they'll go back to luxon/kurzick titles and towns and change things around when they can implement ideas like this for chapter 4.

More max Kurz/Luxon faction would be nice, the same as Hero etc titles increase the cap on Balth faction.

It's not exactly "going back" and changing an old campaign, but rather changing the interface that affects all campaigns.

I think there should be more bonus's, the current title bonus's are only gained by farming a large amount, personally i dont like farming but i have worked to get the protector.. and Grandmaster explorer titles and yet i get nothing from it.

But i think your ideas should be queeked slightly like say Cartographer could be your radar can see a larger distance (since u know the land). Drunkard could reduced the cost of drinks, (cause if anythign u should need more drink to get drunk per level as ur body adapts to the increased drink levels) The protector titles could give u (and just u) a free moral boost at the start of missions, +2% for each protector title you have gained. (since your confidence grows with each campaign)

The second idea I can agree is "going back" but I felt just throwing out the idea anyway.

I feel there should be no bonus's for any titles, i have rank 5 treasure but why should i be given an advange because i grinded? Same with balthazar cap it should be eg 40k cap for everybody, because even though i have a 40k cap why shouldnt everybody else?

Titles are just titles for people who have nothing better to do to work towards and gain and to try and "brag" about them, a title is just a title and should have no reason for people to be sort of "forced" to grind for them.

Silver Star the reason is not to force people to grind. The reason is to reward those that work hard fo rthe titles that they naturally want. This is not so much a discussion on whether any titles should have rewards cause some already do so we know that anet thinks there should. I am just suggesting that if we have some for a few why not for all? What could it hurt.

This WOULD be a grind, though. If the titles gave combat benefits, imagine...

"GLF more for mission! Must have all three GMC and Protector titles as well as Survivor and Legendary Defender of Ascalon"

No thanks.

Cartography: Unlock special area (a new type of elite mission for cartogrophers only. No ability to ferry people either, you need the title to access the mission)

Allegience Luxon/Kurzick: 2k extra faction space per rank. OR 5% increase in faction gains per rank. (approved by me!)

Skill Hunter: cost of skills is -5%(or 10%) per rank of title. (approved by me!)

Drunkard: decrease ale cost

Survivor: increase in armor

Mission completion track: special armor

KoaBD track: the ability to echo mend

legendary Protector of Ascalon: +100 armor vs charr (not that you need it) special armor and ability to access a new campaign in Tyria where the searing never happened.

small bonus, i like the moral boost, but for everyone in the party maybe...

or perhaps a small discount or bonus from merchant for people with protector title.

deffo the beer one, discount or something to help getting max rank

skill hunter title should give discount for new skills, say 10% per rank, realisticaly you will spend ATLEAST 290k on skill caps, for current max rank, which is abit mental..

the idea of bonuses is nice, but they should be small, or only useful for continueing in that area (skill caps/drunkard). the bonus shouldnt be large enough for that to become the reward, or even worse, must have :x

One of the main draws of GW has been that grinding generally does not net practical benefits. Being rich doesn't make you a better player, and it doesn't get you better equipment - it just gets you better *looking* equipment. By giving treasure hunter and wisdom titles a practical benefit, Anet is setting a dangerous precedent.

The way I see it, the title *is* the reward. You get to stand in town and show everyone that you are Kind of a Big Deal, or a Protector of X.

SKILL > TIME SPENT.

You're moving in the complete wrong direction.

No titles should have gameplay based "rewards". You're just forcing people to grind? Pointless. You shouldn't be working, you should be playing.

Lightbringer titles are bad enough, do not turn Guild Wars into a regular MMO.

-

Money based rewards are okay, money is useless for game-balance.
Visual rewards are okay, but keep it minimal.
Game-balance rewards are not okay, you should not be forced to work for the fun.

The Lightbringer title gives you a nice benefit, so why not other titles for when you are in PvE?

And I think that these titles should only work when you have it selected. no stacking benefits!

I think that all the titles should have an inheirent affect on the player when worn, however 5% running speed per level of Cartographer seems a bit much, even if it's only in the PVE for that continent... That's 35% faster at GMC, better (albeit not by much) than a constant sprint...

But...not to the extent that the OP suggested. BIG, FLASHY auras is a must, but overpowered effects, NO. There's a difference between slight bonus than a "too good to ignore" bonus. The current lightbringer/sunspear bonuses barely interesting enough that only the hardcore will bother to get them. The bonuses the OP suggested are the types that people pretty much HAVe to get, so no.

The first thing you guys have to explain is why a title should convey any practical benefit at all. Titles are, above all else, a sign of time investment. In GW, time investment gets you cosmetic effects like better looking armor and fancy titles. It's not supposed to get you a practical in-game benefit like +5% damage vs. X.

And for those of you that think Lightbringer is a trivial bonus, at r8 you do 40% more damage to Torment creatures. While you can argue that it's not required, it is a significant difference. Weapons come with, at most, +20% damage, and most people use +15%>50 or something similar. Customization only nets you 20%. But grinding out a Lightbringer title gets you double that, and it's not just limited to weapons.
