The question has been asked in a few threads but no one seemed to ever know the answer. Now we do, You can buy NF style armor in FoW:

That's always been there. It's the armour you get with no inherent bonuses, every tyrian armour crafter has them.

It wasn't listed on wiki, and no one seemed to be able to answer when the question was asked. I had to make a second trip as I didn't have the elonian leather, but I have the set now and it works great.

Now now, the question is: Can you put an insignia into these no-bonus armors? Or you can only do that with the FoW's no-bonus one or Tyrian/Canthan's No-bonus too?

I was with Cherno for both runs and the no bonus armor can have insignias placed into them. I was going to get my ranger armor that way but figured I never use anything other than Druids anyways. So with the prices on those Radiant Insignia it is much cheaper to just get the Druids.

I am not sure if you can do the same with Tyrian/Cathan non-bonus armors. Might have to test that one out and see what happens.

In every OTHER place, non-stat armor is far cheaper than the other sets. On this list, it's the same price/materials.

If it can't have insignia placed on it, it's got to be the WORST deal in all of Guild Wars, hands-down.

Somebody buy it and find out. ^_^
Edit: Somebody did. Good. Nice to know!

Let us know how that Tyrian/Canthan test goes!

Insignias are only used on Elonian armour. Obsidian != Elonian therefore, no.

Well apparently it does work as he got it and insignias can be used on it. They would update the FoW armor with one of those sets, as they did it with Factions.

The OP would save 35 whole piles of dust by getting the Enchanters over the clean armour. I suppose Insignias would set you back a bit but you're paying for the convenience and durability.

Will it ever be possible to apply Insignias to 'old' armour sets?

No. They won't.

You can't place insignias on the existing pieces of armor. I tested it on another character that I have Fissure on.

True, the base set is just as expensive as the rogues set, BUT I now have the option to change out the stats if I ever want to without having to buy a whole new set of fissure. That was worth it for me and is probably worth it to anyone who is going to get it. Also, they don't have the options available for all the new flavors of armor yet. If I wanted to get Ranger fow with the Beastmaster armor I can't unless I buy the base set and put the insignias on.

Anyway, was just making this thread because I had seen at least 3 threads on the subject (one started by me) with no one able to confirm. Now it is confirmed.

lol I love it when people answer questions like this which such complete surety. Kinda like those who were absolutely certain the Rit and Sin would get no new skills in NF. Please.

Ask about it enough and ANet will probably do something about it.

If the item has an empty instignia slot it can be place,d this armor doesnt, so no it can not

The reason I'm skeptical is because when Factions was released they changed every single crafted ele armour. Mine was +15AL vs. Fire changed to +10 vs. Elemental and +10 vs. Fire.

From that, I'd presume its possible to change the existing armours to allow insignias. Probably a colossal task but possible.

I just told you it can accept insignias. There is no "insignia slot" on armor in any campaign.

Here's proof:

It's a week since I checked this, but if I remember correctly, the Warrior's insignia armor required Deldrimor Steel Ingots. The other materials were same as usual (Iron Ingots, Shards and Ectos).

I highly doubt ArenaNet will change the old armor sets, because as you can see from the picture, they are still available, should you not want insignia armor for some reason.
