Sand Shard Technical Question

I am wondering what exactly triggers sand shards. Is it if you just do a normall attack with a scythe or if you use an attack skill? I had an idea for a build but it wasn't working since I could nto get Sand Shards to trigger on a regular basis.

Any input is welcome, though I am trying to keep my buidl to myself until I work out the bugs.

normal scythes attacks that misses, so if you used signet of midnight and keep yourself blind you have a 90% chance of making it trigger.

i have this in mu dervish build,always trigger it when i attack,because with this u dont have block or miss,and blind does not exist.U always attaking.good hein

How does it work with IW? How about if you've got IW AND blind? I'm assuming it doesn't trigger ever with IW on, but has anyone tried it?

Sand shards doesn't trigger with IW at all.
