Is there a point to using it now? Serisously, for PvE players, it just seems...useless now. It's basically empathy with pretty gold linen and a spooky ghost. Please, please for the love of God, Areanet, mend my broken Spite . Otherwise, there really is no point for this skill in PvE

I was in ToA, one girl said she canceled her Nightfall order because of this.

what exactly changed then?

anyway, get over it. Look at the spoil victor buff. 100 damage, all monsters have more life than a 55hp anyway, kills much faster. You just have to find a solution for the last tick, but the community will find one soon anyway.

SS was a relict. One of the AOE Spells that did not get nerfed. Now it has. I'm not saying this is a good thing, i downright hate it but as someone from A-Net so eloquently put during the last chat... im in a vocal minority they don't care for just like every other major group of people who don't like this update (see for yourself in the last part of the Chat, it should be around here somewhere by now)

How they know that without introducing some sort of global poll? I don't know. Maybe Telepathy? A-Net should introduce global polls for such game changing updates such as this that totally destroy one style of playing. This way they'll see if their players actually like it instead of judging by a small excerpt.

I was chatting with a friend last night who said she tested SS and it didnt make mobs flee, like many AoEs will do. Also, SS is better than Empathy in that it affects more than one target. Not saying its better overall, but if mobs are in close proximity, yes, Id prefer SS over Empathy in that situation.

just saw the change, and I think it's about time Anet changed this.

Like alot of skills, some are just meant more for PvP than others.

Ironically SS is pretty much pve skill, any hex spells that controlled by your opponents are not that useful in pvp (try backfire me, not gonna work against me :P)

SS is still fine, it just operates on a different level now.

Simply untrue. The whole point of putting on a hex such as Backfire or Spiteful Spirit is to stop the opponent from doing what they want to do. I use SS in PvP all the time; most of the time, warriors just swing straight into it, other times, the warriors wait until it's taken off; either way, it's a win win situation.

(Melee) Monsters back off and heal when their health is too low-like any human player with a brain will do-instead of suicide themselves to death.

On a similer vein, a friend mentioned (as thier mesmer) that spellcasters were not casting themselves to death with 'Backfire' on them. And this was at least a week ago.

The Monster-Retreat code only kicks in if there are more than 3 attackers on you. Otherwise, they behave normally. The extras fall back, while the first three attack until dead. At least this is what I saw when soloing smites post-patch.

I knew this would happen someday and I knew I would laugh about the SS lovers going mad. And.. well...

*laugh*

Now people might actually accept mesmers into the party?

I take thats Random Arena (meh anything can happen there), try that somewhere else. Provided monk or mesmer as your opponent as well, it will be removed in no time. Of course I would ocassionally attack even with SS on me and stop for healing and attack some more.

Which is why good Mesmer Anti-Melee builds still work perfectly. If you built an SS build more like us, you'd be fine.

No, they spread out with SS on them. There's absolutely no point in using it now. And I use SS in abs many times. Most of the time, people keep on casting and attacking. Makes no difference. But occasionally people stop attacking or they remove it. But, I dont really like PvP very much, so I use it for farming(ectos and greens) but it's impossible with this build now. SS was an actual fun build to farm with. . .

You know, when I used to use a mesmer in Alliance Battles, I was supprised how many casters killed themselves with Backfire.

SS doesn't do enough damage in PvP for it to matter. The reason it works so well in PvE mobs is because they cluster so much and they don't have self heals.
One self heal recovers all the damage lost due to attacking/casting through SS.
Also, yes I have seen many dumb flare spamming eles die to backfire in PvP, but I'm assuming people actually understand the game mechanics.
Looks like SS is somewhat worthless now.

Mark of Pain always used to cause scatter (since the original update). Why not SS? Operates under more or less, similar conditions.
