This has been glued into my mind for the past week and i wanted to find out if it was true:

Some where i read that All the pets except the spider did slashing, And the spider did peircing.

One time i was trying to sell Chkkr's pincers. I was saying they were the same as shiro's blades without seeing the "Slashing/Peircing Difference".

While trying to Sell, Someone pm'd me and said "They arent like Shiro's, Shiro's do slashing, Yours do peircing, and Slashing is better then pericing".

so a few days later my friend got an uw spider, shes been so excited about it, I've been wanting to get my own, but i just cant get that thought out of mymind, can anyone help and tell me if the spider Does less "Overall Damage" then..(Example) a black moa?

Check the amazing and massive pet guide here on guru. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that they concluded that all pets (except the bear) do identicle damage. However, having a spider as a status symbol for it's badass-itude is definitely worth it I'll look for a link to the guide in a sec....

Edit: After an easy search (hint, hint), here she be: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s... ate+pet+guide Note that you are correct that spiders (and dune lizards) do piercing damage, instead of slashing. You'll have to ready for yourself if that actually makes a significant difference in damage output, though.

"Shields Up!" is a skill that will screw over spiders and assassins, since it gives +50 armor against piercing to all allies within earshot. Also your spider won't be doing as much damage against skeleton monsters in FoW since they're resistant to piercing(and blunt damage) as well. Shields Up has pretty much left the metagame when ranger spikes died IIRC, so my spider has been enjoying a good time as a bunny when I thumped.

I got my spider simply because I didn't really like any other of the pets that much, yet the Black Widow just looked so freakin leet. Much better than the velociraptor phoenix thingy..

1. It's so 1337!!
2. It's one of the two pets in the game that do penetration damage.
3. It's the only bug pet.
4. It's the only black colored pet.

It's not that it does less damage overall per say... its just that against certain skills or monster types it's weak. BUT the same could be said against slashing/blunt damage as well. (look at the assassin armors)

As it was mentioned... Shields up is a big downer for Assassins and spiders alike.... but.... you'll not encounter that very often (if ever) in PvE at least. Go ahead and pick your pet according to what you think looks the best... because honestly (and unfortunately) the stats are identical. The only bad pet is a bear... and then it's not much worse.

technically although crabs sorta have a buglike appearance they are crustaceans, which is not a bug... related though. that said, crabs ftw!

I personally dont like the pre-evolved level 20 pets anymore, just because it really is easy to grab a pet of whatever flavor you want and make it whichever evolution you want, and that way its perfect AND unique because you've spent the time bonding and training your pet. Ever noticed that the pet AI doesnt do what you tell it to do? well thats because you havent trained your pet right
You can spend 25 minutes and get a spider, woot, big effin deal. Or train one right.

It looks excellent partnered with a Ranger or Warrior wearing Obsidian armour dyed black. Someone in black Obsidian armour atleast has some chance of earning a little respect as someone who didn't buy a Spider Capture run.

So what your saying is that if u raise a pet from lvl 5, It will be better than a anto lvl 20 pet, if that is true, Im gonna get 1 of those red crabs, or maybe a whit tiger.

P.S the only people respect when it come to pet are those u use them for combat, rather than to look good.

Dire/Hearty evolutions are better by far than the elder evolutions, and so finding the Dire/Hearty pre-evolved pet becomes more difficult. But a pre-evolved dire spider and a dire hard earned battle trained lizard are the same as far as AI goes.

Well, having a Dire Lizard you get you more respect than having a spider, simpliy because he worked hard to raise it, instead of paying some person to get a spider for him. If you get a spider because you like bugs and it's the pet for you, fair enough, but the 1 thing I hate is when people get them just to look good......dam those curs.

you can always cap the spider yourself.

I myself have helped all the good guidlies that wanted spiders get them.

they earned them in my opinion by being good guildies.

Besides its always fun to make a pure spider b/p or iway group

ask around in your guild for a spider run for free.. if you cant find one.. pm me in game and i will be glad to get ya one for free if i have the time. that way it will be worth it

I captured mine because I liked the look of it over the other simple and graphicless pets.

It wont get others to respect you more, no pet skin will... that only comes when your pet owns the bad guys This just tends to happen more frequently if you are used to working with the pet, and use it a lot... experience makes things get dead easier. So basically your ps is dead on

P.S the only people respect when it come to pet are those u use them for combat, rather than to look good. I've also noticed a trend for x/r types to have a spider more often than the ranger primaries... this fits the bling theory since more often than not a monk only has a pet for bling.

. Correct, I want a powerful pet because I enjoy been a beastmaster, enraged lunge is awsome damage skill. Remeber, it's not what it looks like, it's how u use it.

P.S my white tiger has hit lvl 11 as agressive, so he's doing well.
