Locked Skills on PvP Templates

A friend of mine just got a new account, and thus has very little unlocked.

It seems that when he creates a new PvP character using one of the built-in templates, some (but not all) of the skills on these characters are covered by a partly-transparent lock icon, and while he can put them in his skill bar, he can't cast them.

All of the skills for which this has happened are ones he hasn't unlocked, but it doesn't happen to all skills he hasn't unlocked. Most of the skills on a given template seem to work just fine, but a few of them (like Dodge, Vengeance, Restore Life) he can't use.

What's going on? Is this some sort of bug?

are these from the othr campaign? if he is only a factions charachter, he is unable to use prophecies skills, and they show up with little locks over them.

No Bug, He doesn't have the chapter to use them.

Some Skills are Specific to the chapterthey were introduced in.

From your sample skills, it seems he doesn't have chapter 1 (all of those skilsl are specific to chapter 1) - so they have a lock icon if he doesn't have chapter 1.

I see. That sort of makes sense, although I would have thought they'd offer Factions-only accounts a set of builds that use only Factions skills.

Some are, like the Assassin ones :\

You can sub in factions skills for some of those too. Like Zojun's Haste is the same effect as Dodge.

If you just unwrapped the game and want to try out a little PvP before playing much into the campaign, your options are rather limited.
