No I think it's a glitch, if the sell price is that low, the price to buy it should also have decreased since they'd have an over abundance. Instead the price is over 10k now. Since the prices are going up, that means demand is still high, but they still won't give you any money for them. It doesn't make sense.
It's got to be a glitch.

Its happened before. Just keep trying to sell it until they offer you a higher price.
Its something that happens occasionally when they update.

Ya know, I wonder if it's based on how much your character is currently carrying... like the vendor just noticed you're carrying around 29k and thought "meh, I'll give you one gold piece, you're rich enough".
Because I always get crappy offers for my stuff and I always have a lot of gold on me. Does anyone NOT carry around a lot of gold with them???

I carry virtually no gold with me. I have 3 active PvE characters so I use my storage all the time, no character ever carries more than 499g (when I have 500g, it goes to storage). I still get turd prices on everything :P

Damn... another thoery out the window.
Yeah, the economy is truly stupid then. Enough economic wars, and back to guild wars please Anet. Just have set prices so us without the degree in finance can play this game. If I wanted to get into the stock market, I would've spent my 50$ on shares instead of your game.

It is not a glitch. The dye trader is just full of black dye. A vendors stock is based on how much we sell/buy at that vendor. People have just sold tons of black dye and have bought none from dye traders. Therefore, the trader is full of black dye and no longer wants to buy more.

That much makes sense.......... but why does the dye trader still sell black dye at ~10k then? Shouldn't his selling price go down because his supply is up?
I've seen times where there was no black dye.... and when 1 did become available the trader's price was around 4-6k. I thought the idea was that when the supply went down, the price went up.... wth?

I think there is a fixed number of dyes (of a color) the trader will stock, and if the trader is overstocked, it will offer merchant prices for the goods (which is 1g for dydes). Probably due to the high prices, ppl has been selling more than buying, resulting in the trader to be fully stocked. hence the trader is buying them dirt cheap to discourage ppl from selling it to him.
I think the price of the dyes will decrease over time as long as there are more ppl sellng it than buying, but it doesnt happen quickly. I am also guessing the max quantity the trader will stock a particular item varies with the value of the said item, which sort of make sense in the real world.
