I see more and more of them on the EU servers now. I wonder if the intl district is getting too hot for them.

I wish ANet would just remove gold from the game altogether. It's really not needed.

You use it because it's available. We don't really need it. The whole concept of using money in these games is the result of habit. Make the game's items plentiful (it's not a game of items or levels, after all...), remove gold, and you no longer have to worry about bots, eBay, etc.
Think outside the box... gold is a habit, not a necessity.

Its a habit humans aren't gonig to break.
Remove gold and plats and ectos will become the new dollar. Humans will always use Currency even if it isn't avialable.
Its one reason Utopian societies always fail. For that to happen there can be no currency, if you need soemthing you trade in equal amounts for it - so everyone is as equal in society. Whats that cuase? what if you need something from a plumber and your plumbing is fine? Of course before long IOU's would come about...not long after that people will be trading IOU's are services...They would have then effectively made IOU cards their currency..

It's simple... have everything available enough, via drop rates or merchants, that nothing is rare enough to take on an inflated value. Remove gold altogether. Then add enough new content to give people more to do now that farming is obsoleted.
Granted, it takes a major brain shift. But it's doable.
Edit:
Nice, even I'm still guilty... merchants would need to be redone somehow. Perhaps if you give the merchant 50 units of any salvageable item, you get to pick something in exchange?
Bah, habits are hard to break.
It's still doable.
