this is a dumb question but i see people with images in their forums, how do i do that without making the image a attachment or a link to go to it? i want the image to show next to my text.

Yeah, its called a Signature, or sig, and is normally editable from the User CP - but its disabled on these forums.
And please don't use images that are much larger than what RotteN showed, it annoys the hell out of people(me) when you have to scroll through images to find the actual posts.
