Well I never ever checked how many faction points I had besides the basic 10k limit bar. I checked the other day and was extremely suprised to find a whopping 700k+ points!!! I think I really need to ease off the PvP aspect of the game seeing as only one of my characters has ever finished the game and the most money I've ever had is 8k.

When I was a little child my mother once told me this story about this so-called "Outside" that you mention. But I know it's just a myth...

Meh I've been playing this game for around 3 hours a day since it was in the beta stages. Majority of the fame I received was during a "golden period" when my old beta buddies from real life and I used to do HA hardcore (back then it was HoH and IWAY had not yet been invented). We used to take the favor of the gods on a daily basis racking up hundreds of fame each run. Now everyone who I used to play with have quit the game so my massive fame campaigns have pretty much been slowed to a halt.

Wow, awesome! Personally, I can't stand the rank 3+ balances that only make it 1/2 maps in -- I'm just waiting for a "golden" group so I can hopefully make rank 6 pretty fast.

Though I am sort of confused at how you got that much, since I remember reading somewhere it only takes ~400k to get UAS, so wouldn't it cap ~550k?

I don't think so.
Even before Chapter 2, I highly doubt it was that low.

~75 skills to each profession, of which ~15 were elite, 60x1,000 = 60,000, 15x3,000 = 45,000, ~105,000 faction for UAS on a single profession.
About 630,000 faction for UAS overall, give or take a decent amount.

4 minor, major, and superior runes to Necromancer, Mesmer, Monk, and Ranger, 5 to Elementalist, 6 to Warrior (counting Absorption), and then the vigors. 28 of each level of rune; 28,000 faction for minors, 42,000 for majors, 56,000 for superiors. 126k for runes about. Should be more accurate than skills.

Going off of swords, 9 non-scaling weapon mods, 9 scaling; 27k per weapon on average. 108k for all sword, hammer, bow, and axe mods about. Exactly 8 scaling mods on a staff, so another 16k. About 124k in total for unlock all weapon mods.

Thus, I'd give a loose estimate of 880k for UAX. Give or take 30k.

And that's for prophecies.
Since we had 2 factions previews, people could spend points on Factions skills, runes, and possibly weapon mods. (Don't remember whether or not you could get Dagger mods).

The secret to getting good fame runs in my opinion is, first when you start off PvP with as many random teams as possible. If someone says: Group needs XXX, then you make an XXX build and join it. Once you've been in like 100 groups then make friends with all the outstanding PvPers you meet in those groups and keep good relations. The truth is in most teams there is like 1 or 2 outstanding players and the rest are average (groups like War Machine and Last Pride have 8 naturally). Add any you notice into friends list and soon you'll have like 8 really good PvP friends on your list that you can call upon to form strong builds any time you want.

The chances of randomly getting into a "golden group" are extremely slim. Of course nowadays I see all these newbies complaining that they can't even get their foot into the door due to their low rank, I seen tonnes of unranked balanced groups and blood spikers etc. around that they can network with.
