A Premature Sighting
Well less than half an hour ago, 16:13 UK summer time, I was in Serenity Temple, and someone asked me what profession started with a "P"... "Paragon", I replied, and after a few seconds noticed why he was asking...
I hope my attempt to obscure the name is okay, it's the first time I've tried to do that to a screenie. But it rather confirms my feeling that most of the "grandmaster cartographers" one sees in outposts are not exactly what they seem!

Ut ohs...Quite a sighting, ja? A little more of an explanation on this would be cool...lol, perhaps just a simple glitchy.

There are quite a few paragon and dervish secondaries running around. They switched during the event and never switched back. I guess these people simply never have a need to use a skill from their secondary profession.

If you set your secondary to /P during the preview event, it didn't change back, but you can't do anything with it, I think.

Ah, that would explain it... I didn't notice any people taking existing characters onto the preview island, or see an option to change your secondary profession, so I suppose PvE characters must have been able to make the change on the Battle Isles, alongside the PvP characters, and then venture out into Tyria and Cantha to show off their new skills? Interesting, I guess, though not as much fun as exploring our first glimpse of the Nightfall PvE areas!

All you had to do was hit K and you could change professions from anywhere. A new feature with Nightfall that they let us fool around with that weekend. And no, nobody was allowed to bring existing characters to the preview island.

I suppose I was too busy getting my Paragon up to level twenty to notice that... if one had the pre-release bonus pack I suppose a Paragon secondary would have been able to go round wielding a high-level spear, even (or a dervish a scythe), which would have terrified the locals!

Actually, I saw a character in Droknar's changing their secondary profession to Dervish and Paragon. I asked them how they were able to unlock it for that character and never got a response. I wonder how it was done? On my characters I only had access to the secondaries I unlocked in desert quests or bought at Senji's.

The profession-changer guy in the Temple of Balthazar could unlock /P or /D during the event.

You couldn't take existing characters into the preview event. You could also buy the P and D unlocks in Senji's corner and switch them. As said above, people just didn't switch back.
It isn't unusual for people to not use any skills from their secondary profession. Many people with /Mo or /Rt are just using it for a reusable res.

lol I'm very surprised, you took a screenshot of a guildmate.
To explain you, he switched to A/P during the event and didn't switch back to another 2nd profession he can keep that but it doesn't allow him to use Parangon attributes.
