Again with the critique (by semi-popular demand)
I've been busy, so thats why I didnt get into it sooner.
Again, im ignoring commentary, etc, as, tbh, I dont care about it :P (as far as the pictures are concerned.)
Overall I noticed, just doing my quick look through, much much better overall.
Additional side note : Im going to try and be forgiving on the restricted format of the shots. Rectangle shots tend to be easier to lay out IMO, square is much much harder, so I will try to be forgiving on what gets cut off.
I also really wish I could see each persons complete showcase of submissions, but ah well...
Anyway.. on with the... um.. show?
Perynne Walker
I both like, and dislike the picture. The background? As a landscape alone I would like it. The foreground? Only having the bit of ground and the full showcase of your character, even in what could arguably be a bland pose. I like it. However, I dont like the both together. Since the formatting is limited and such, I wouldve preferred one or the other, lighthouse or ship (lighthouse wouldve been better IMO). But overall, the background just doesnt seem to fit well with the character. Good compositional eye, but the pieces just dont seem to fit well together...
--Response in comparison to the previous pic. : Better overall eye for a background, but still lacking in a complimentary background. IMO, all of you are going for beauty shots, avoid having lots of needless things in the background to draw focus away from your characters that you are showcasing. Your previous background was much better for a beauty shot, just the colors threw it off (and the naked guy) Go for simplistic, contrasting or complementary colors.
--Reccomendations : Since it seems that all future shots are going to be in and around the jade see, watch for interesting, but SIMPLE backgrounds that dont blend perfectly with your armor. As much as I love luxon ranger armor, I would be tempted to say avoid using it at all.
Malefic Mistress
It kind of scares me that your dark droks shot is your "best" one, that being said, I like the fact that your armor colors fit nicely with the background, but dont blend. My main problem with the pic is the darkness of it. (Yes I know its droks, which is the frustrating part of it, I think it would be a great shot with slightly better lighting. Also, I dont like the, i believe CE spotlight effects. Just throws things off. I think the lighting is about as good as you can possibly get in droks, I wouldve liked to have seen the pic, if the whole character was shifted right (looking AT the pic) a bit, just to drag the hand out of the shadows.
-- Previous pic. : Lighting was your enemy in the previous pic. As well as the pose. The pose is FAR better in the new one.
--Reccomendations : Being in the jade sea, you are going to have plenty of light to work with. However, be aware if your armor trends towards the darker (as most assassin armor does) be wary that your 'sin doesnt stick out like a sore thumb against the background.
Summer Newmentz
I like the pose in this picture, I DONT like the background. There are plenty of places, even in a busy city such as LA, to find a spot with no background players. It just looks like the pic was taken haphazardly when the pose was right. Also, I dont know if its intentional, but it looks like there is a horizontal squeeze going on. Whats up with that? Could be a mis-crop or whatever, and it could be that Im looking at it wrong, but eh. Nothing really catches my eye in this shot.
Previous pic. : This week there is again, nothing really special about the shot. Again your background kind of clashes with the character, its just too busy!
Reccomendations : Your armor, covered with beads and bangles and other assorted do-dads lends itself well to a slightly busier background. Just be aware of big chunks of scenery cutting into your characters.
Burnout Chic
I love the pose and all, and the background isnt so obtrusive, but... my one concern, it was obviously set up as a vertical rectangle shot, which is great and all, but you knew the format you were going to be limited to. Its hard to try and make a picture thats so obviously begging to be "tall" that compressing it to a square just ruins it for me. I think a better angle couldve helped that, but I really dont know. Its hard to pull off "tall" in the format you were restricted to.
Previous pic. : I see a theme emerging between the two, you like your character offset, which is hardly a bad thing, and actually opens up interesting possibilities. Its almost always better to have an offset to a picture than just straiight symmetry. I dont however, think this pic is a marked improvement over the last, simply because you tried to force something on a fixed aspect ratio...
Reccomendations : Dont give up on the vertical shots, but dont forget about horizontal either. Yes, female eles in general have a natural "tall" thing happening because of their poses and such, but that doesnt mean you cant take a good horizontal picture. Challenge yourself on the x axis.
Xo Katina Xo
Seriously, my only nit pick about this picture is the plant thats intersecting your arm on the left side, keep the mesmer ever so slightly off center, and definently not lined up with the middle faded tower. The framing (except for the plant) is great, the background doesnt detract or otherwise distort the focus of the picture. It merely complements the armor, and the pose. (Burnout, look at this pic on how you can do "tall" in even a square shot.
- In reference to the "preferred picture : I still dont like the fact that the pieces of wall intersect with the sides of the head, rather than merging with the shoulders as I suggested. I do however think the darker lighting complements the picture because of the locale (although I would still wish for more front lighting, just to help the armor stand out better)
Previous pic. : Posing your character is obviously your forte, keep that up, of course. as in the previous picture, its small little spacing things that keep it from being amazing IMO.
Reccomendations : Pay attention to the little details that may get missed on a last minute rush shoot. :P
Jaden Stone
Ack, so so so close, again, just minor nit-picks. The ground in the lower left! The boats position! Either a full bottom edge or none at all, in this case, none at all would be my preference. Also, the boat is just in a weird place, it almost seems like you didnt notice it when you took the pic. if it was framed under the arm and to the right of the leg, then, wow.
-In reference to the "preferred" pic. Wow. Great colors, great composition. Nothing there to draw attention away from the character. A much better shot overall IMO.
Previous pic. : Umm, it was good too? Even more simple this time around which works better with the character and the armor used.
Reccomendations : Again, same as katina, just little stuff.
Mortissia Faust
A picture like this and you cut off the feet? Why? The ground couldve been used in so many interesting ways. Now the picture looks 2-D because we have no sense of distance between you and the wall you are dancing in front of. Overall the picture is good, you complemented the "busy" nature of ritualist armor with a very "plain" and simple background, which is a good thing! The color contrast is great, but you just came so close to having an excellent shot...
-On your "preferred" picture : The composition overall is excellent, and the colors work well. But the exotic armor isnt as busy as other rit armors, and so the busier background works against you for that shot.
Previous pic. : Your choice of color in your preferred pic is far better than your previous pic. The rits armor colors fit nicely in with their evironment this time around. And like I said, the one they chose as the best is so close to being excellent!
Reccomendations : Your pictures are far better, you just need little things to make them great. If I had one thing for you to challenge yourself with, its to not limit yourself to dead on shots. Move the mouse around, get low shots, get high shots.

gah, its a hard run for me to get to seafarer's from far away... considering the lack of time I will have this week, i would please like to change my boss to wavecrest stonebreak, so at least I can run to Aurios Mine >.<
|
I'd like to take the ritual lord then if you are sure you want to change
Edit---- I'm not sure if you had time this weekend because of this huge assignment but wasn't there supposed to be a one on one interview, or at least set up a time? as I was not contacted about this

Thanks Wrynn!

Haha, I was fairly lucky, I actually got a guildy whammo to run me, so Im far enough into Luxon land (Im an obsessive Kurzick, never stepped into Luxon Land farther than Luxon 15k...).
But now that Im far enough, I dont think I have an excuse of changing bosses.... so the first pick it is. Sorry for the confusion >.<

I'll take Wavecrest Stonebreak.
Isn't Xiriss Stickleback only available during a quest, and he disappears once you've done the quest? I would probably have picked him otherwise, but I've already done it and was worried that I wouldn't be able to get to him again....

Well looks like im stuck with MR stickleback, problem is he is quest only.... and I've complete the quest before. At this point it would be near impossible to find someone to help me with this. A replacement boss would be nice as this is a huge disadvantage. I will try my best if i am forced to do this.

Well that's odd, I spent most of yesterday taking a picture with each boss, but I guess one of us had that quest?
Ok, well, I guess we'll swap that boss out and go with Miella Lightwing who is a monk boss also in Silent Surf.
As for the interviews, we're gonna hold out on that till later, possibly top five? three? two? lol I just think it would be more in depth that way, ask more fun questions.
Alright, let me know if anyone else is having problems with their boss.
