Judge 1: For such a bright background, I don't know how you two got shaded, again, bad lighting.
Judge 2: I think everyone should take note about this, please get a second opinion about lighting on screens, because we've been saying bad lighting, bad lighting, bad lighting, and I don't think anyone has improved on that.

wow! you really think so? i can clearly see all the details in the faces and body, even in the small version. the sun is an important part of the picture and the composition, so logicly it is backlighting the characters. the backlighting is a style of a picture, not a mistake i made. the backlighting is there to make the silouettes stance more powereful and to stand out more rather then blend in the backround. a good lighting in a picture doesnt mean that the character has to stand facing the map's light source.
well, if i make it to the next round i guess ill go with something more usual, and stop trying to do an original picture.
and in Mortissia Faust's defence, you DID say you can choose a radom character that is afk (cuz otherwise good luck getting a good shot). in the examples that Nylene posted there are a few where the male is just standing still, not any diffrent from an afk person.
and it was a good shot Mortissia, she looks like she is leaning on his shoulder

Aw thanks Maria, but the judges have their reasons, Ive had a harsh relation with them last week, so please if you have concerns tell LadyNilene through email, on the boards.. well i learnt that lesson once >.<
I actually included in my explanation how I wanted to show how I was leaning on his shoulder... that I could always depend on him... and I thanked him... but the judges cut that out. It was a personal thing after all, so i can understand. But yeah! I really just wanted to show I have a shoulder to lean on.
~~~MUSIC! WE all NEED somebodyyy to Leaaaan on!~~~
Malefic, I do hope your day improves, and yes life sucks! If only GW was life... just chopping up monsters, selling ectos. Saving the world. yeah.
Well I'm glad you liked my picture because I really wasnt happy with what I was stuck with. Like I said to the judges my male model ditched me and was forced to find a last minute (literaly 2 hours from deadline) replacement. He unfortunatly did not have the location I wanted to take the shot at But I'm very happy he helped me out and we found a suitable location fast.
I really liked Katinas shot and how it turned out. She had the same thing happen to her with her male model and I decided to help out the enemy with my male mesmer. As for the judges comments on the mask I both agree and disagree. I think the half face mask is undeniably awsome and would add to the shot, but you also stated previously that we should be able to see the male models face, or at least a profile. So Katina decided to take the safe route as sometimes the judges can be harsh when mistakes are made.
I'm also hoping for a male version of this contest Because the Minister of Manly (best name ever!) needs more attention.
Here are 2 shots of him, one without the mask, one with.
I still disagree with the 3000 frames for one shot lol, i believe, the only person that would have that treatment would be A-List celebrities. And even then, once you get a shot, it gets air brushed, retouched, etc etc. A-listers get away with everything lol I dont think any starting model would get that priviledge, and if they did, I highly doubt a client would book them again if it takes that much work to pull a shot from a model.
Firstly, its Nilene* im surprised after so long you mistaken it lol, secondly, again, if you don't provide that info in your explanation, its not going to be taken into consideration. I still feel that its dark, you can try and doll up the situation as much as possible, but its dark. It might not be black out dark, but comparing to some of our other contestants, its not as clear as it could be. And I meant random character as in random person, not just any person standing around afk. Again, I'll be the first to say I don't have the best picturs, I only post the pictures I post because they are the basic ideal situation, if you noticed, if they're standing still, they're still at an angle that somewhat generate a thought of action.
And yes, I thought you were the male model used in Katina's shot, I'm sure I read somewhere in Katina's submission that you were the model she used, but I wasn't sure if it was the correct reference. Either way, that's very nice of you to help her out. Your collaboration together was truly superior. It kinda reminds me during ANTM's Cycle 2 finale Dsquared2 fashion show when Yoanna's heel broke and Mercedes lent her her shoes at the very last second. So it was very kind of you to help out! And yes, ideally, you wouldn't want the mask, but for the exception of working with another model, I think having that mask on, would've just been so Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys, with a modern, sensuous, lusty twist. If you wanted to play it safe, like I said, you could've just used the mask that only covered one eye and half the face, but really, I think this picture could've pulled off so well even with a full face mask with the male model.
And yeah, we tried to reschedule alot of things, we immediately went into deliberation the last night, and tried to post the info early this morning, and we just got through deliberations on the results post, which we'll post tomorrow, I'm gonna try and send you this week's winner today, and we'll see how fast I can get it back to me, anyways, ill try to contact you in PM with more details in just a bit!
Im not complaining at your thoughts or anything, But I'm NOT AFRAID OF THE BEACH!!!!!!!! I tried shots there and naturally when i had the choice to send in three pictures i am going to send in the stuff for the one that the judges agreed are best. Yes i made a mistake with the lighting and i made a mistake by wearing black armor. I have learned from it and will remember it as long as i am in this competition or any time i am in a competition like this. EVERYONE makes mistakes, and sometimes they learn from them. I have and I will remember it. And again, Im not complaining - Beacuse i take critisism and use it, so i do appreciate it - But I think you were assuming I went to one place for pictures and that was it. I didn't do that - I went to many different places and took around 300 screen shots, Then sent in what I thought was the best 3, not what anyone else thinks is the best 3, what I thought is the best 3. The judges choose that one and i went with it.
Overall i thought a lot of people did well - I see mistakes in each and every pictures (except katina's - excellent job!!!), But i see something good in each picture as well. Good job everyone!
Also apologizes, I am having a really bad day relating to personal issues, which is why i may be coming off harsh. Life sucks =X
I did not know about submitting multiples, in my response to one of the other comments. As far as just taking the two (lack of seeing the third), compositionally, the other one (selected by the judges) is the better one.
Theres actually something other than just the characters in the one selected, in the beach one, its just the characters, the characters ARE the composition (excluding the single horizontal bisection). I would've liked something making the 'sin (the contestant) the dominant presence in the picture, as it stands, the warrior takes up too much space to be ignored or be a "set piece". Something that pulls you forward and makes you the focus, and him set back, and now part of the background would be preferable in my eyes. Also! Be aware of the horizon line when taking a picture, that simple horizontal bisection can be incredibly powerful, even if only one line / two blocks.
I would hope no one went to just one place and took photographs, limiting your potential choices at deadline would be a bad thing to do.
You dont need to apologize for your response to me, bad day notwithstanding (which I hope improves before the end of the day, going to sleep pissed off sucks :/ ). I didnt hold back or mince words, and I wouldnt expect anything less from a response.
And, sorry Jaden, but "sun behind the head like I'm jesus" shot has got to go. Any time I see a shot like that all I can think of is "LOL IM JEEBUS"
And I still maintain : Masks on Katina's shot would've detracted from it.
To be fair, I didnt say 3000 shots for one usable shot as far as a professional model shoot, but I honestly wouldnt be surprised by 3-4 rolls (average 28 frames each) to get one or two usable pictures. Granted, top models would most likely have photographers with better equipment (re: faster) and a staged, static pose is easier to take less shots of than a dynamic setting (such as a runway, which is why you have approx. 300 flashes going off every .42 seconds). Taking lots of pictures sequentially has always been favorable, as then you can end up with minor nuances from one picture to the next (theres a famous picture, cannot remember the name of the model or actress who it was of, but its her, naked IIRC, with a large constrictor snake on her back, and the photographer happened to snap the shutter at the exact moment the snake flicked its tongue out. That shot is one in a million if not a billion, couldnt be planned if they wanted it to, and is only possible by rapid fire shutter)
I mainly brought it up because GW screenshots are only limited by Hard Drive space, and people might be surprised what they would get out of the same composition if they took a lot of screenshots, with minor variations in rotation around the subjects, etc. IMO, trying to get everything "just right" even in a mostly static environment like GW, just to take one shot and think you hit the nail on the head isnt a good way to go about it. Thats all.
well, sorry for youre name typo, i got it confused with a girl's name i know in real life.
about the explanation, i just figured since the sun is taking up half of the backround i wouldnt have to explain that its intended to be there. and the fact that if the sun is behind u, the other side is darker is logical. i did say its the desert, its only logical to show sun since im not shiowing any land.
ah well
well its not big deal, my day is somewhat better now (keeping in mind, somewhat) But i have a huge issue with people assuming thing about me. Its always been known to make me angry. I can't explain why, But it pisses me off badly. At any rate, i just thought you were assuming i went to one place to take pictures and hadn't thought of anything else.
But again, thank you for the critique. I enjoy reading and learning from all of the things i did wrong, or could have done better
and agreed, it sucks badly going to sleep being pissed. I hate it
ack! I hope I didn't come off saying that peoples pics were "wrong" in any way :/ That was not my intention, especially considering that in any form of art, there is no "right" or "wrong", only opinions, in this case my opinion, which is far from "law" :P
I simply stated what I found appealing and detracting from each pic from my point of view, your mileage may vary.
Be that as it may, if anything I said makes sense, and you choose to think about it the next picture you take, remember this: it is still your art, you make the final call, if you love it, and everyone else hates it, who cares? It is YOUR expression, and how much YOU enjoy it, and no one else should impede that.
I have to say, I disagree with the judges responses to this one, I enjoyed the lighting, and dont think the characters fade into shadow, at least, not on my screen they dont. I enjoyed the pic, excluding the things I mentioned in my previous post.
Using the "sun" is tricky because basically, if its in the picture, its backlighting your subject. IMHO, the sun is best used to help with the mood of a picture(as in Jadens), rather than a thematic element (as in yours).
Secondary to all that, I am vehemantly opposed to you last line. Don't do something "usual" always do something true to yourself. As I said above, YOU are the only judge of your work that truly matters.
wow, what you said truly makes this recent assignment so much more appealing. I am still scared, and will be scared that I will be eliminated... but after what you said... I guess that by sending out a Happy birthday picture dedicated to my friend, something I like, it doesnt matter the outcome of this competition. I now know i did the assignment wrong, and how bad it is... but I like it, and I feel I made someone else's day happy with it. Its all good in the end, thanks for your comments Wrynn. Please continue commenting on pictures!
Truly, next cycle if a judge spot is open, please consider applying. please.
Thank you to everyone for the compliments!
I had an idea in my head from the beginning with the contrasting black and white, but I had no clue what pose to use! We tried numerous ones and eventually came to the one you all saw, minus some clipping issues! =p
And it was very nice of Jaden to help out on things, known him for quite long now! Plus he sooo owed me from earlier things !
Thanks everyone! <3
Week 5 Results (MOTW/Elimination/Scores)
Here are this week's scoring...
Burnout Chic - 04, 03, 05 = 12
Jaden Stone - 05, 07, 04 = 16
Malefic Mistress - 07, 04, 06 = 17
Mortissia Faust - 02, 01, 01 = 04
Perynne Walker - 03, 06, 03 = 12
Raselle Deathblade - 01, 02, 02 = 05
Summer Newmentz - 06, 05, 07 = 18
Xo Katina Xo - 08, 08, 08 = 24
Which gives Katina and Summer up for MOTW and leads Raselle and Mortissia up for elimination.
After deliberations...the winner for MOTW is...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/vol05kb7.jpg
Congratulations to our winner! For winning MOTW, you may choose one of two prizes...
1. In game prize of an amulet of the mist for you and your male model.
or
2. A special in game prize of two points added to your next score. With our numbers growing smaller and smaller, these points will be worth more and more. This could mean all the difference, or make no difference depending on your and your competitors submission.
Please get with me at your nearest convenience to give me your decision through post/pm/email/whatever.
Now eliminations...
Raselle Deathblade - While I can appreciate you wanted to take a risk, the fact of the matter is, the rules were not followed. Since day one, a rule that was given was You were to name anyone you use in a shoot with you...
4. You must submit your entry before the deadline.
While it is true, we did not specifically give the rules out in every email, there is always a hint to "follow the rules" in every email. Again, we are not going to baby you and spoon food everything to you guys, its a matter of you guys wanting it enough to get it. If you simply did not remember the rules, you could always ask for them.
Mortissia Faust - This week was not a good week for you as well. You did not live up to this week's shoot. And although some of us on panel felt your picture had potential to show a story similiar to Jaeda's dracula book cover shoot on ANTM
it just wasn't quite there...
The decision was tough...but one has been made...
Congrats to everyone who passed onto the next round, and congrats to our eliminated contestants for making it this far!
I'll post the next assignment later today, just getting some finishing touches, but let me just say, the next few weeks of competition is going to determine alot, cause from now on, the real competition begins...
Man I so wish i had heard about this a long time ago. I would've worked my --- off making a female character and entering it. I am following the competion as well, and i may enter an the male one or make a female but i need ideas as to which profession to choose. Congrats to all contestents who made it this far. And a congrats to katina for winning MOTW. Can i get some people to post some good professions that would be good in this comp. but also good for PvE.
