Ha! I love it! I love how Beyonce, diva in real life, translates to diva ingame. Drama becomes you, Beyoncee.
I like how you were the only one using a child in istan... far too many people used Vabbian Children, and that disappointed me a little.
Goodbye for now.

She's in the middle of the plains of jarin, which is on a SAVANAH. Um duh, it's hot there. She doesn't look 'skanky' or anything of the sort. It seems to me that the judges were afraid of a little bit of originality here. Beyoncee not only captured the mood of motherhood by showing her child something beautiful, but she did it with style. I look at the other shots and they look tired and boring - as if everyone sat around trying to figure out how to hug their child.
I'm really disappointed in the judges comments today, and it leaves me wondering what exactly is the point of this.

I really wish there wasn't so much drama after each assignment.... geeze, we seemed to get off easy with the first round that only had a couple of incidents of people getting pissed. Come on people, it's JUST a competition! Also, it's NOT a competition hosted by the random people running around the forums, so PLEASE stop trying to take the judges places.
Man, this time around we really have some annoying people posting here. No offense, but I'm appalled at the amount of rudeness that some people display. I'm really disappointed that people can't show a little good behaviour towards a contest that is ran just for the fun of it. Just... don't take things so seriously. It makes life easier on the long run.
Beyoncee's entry was quite original, sure, and I didn't find any fault in her clothing (after all, it's hot in the savannah, and mesmers generally have flashy clothes). The thing that bothered me the most was that the mother and child were so far apart. Wouldn't it be nicer if they were looking at flamingos together? Right now the child looks like it was cropped into the picture as an afterthought, which really didn't work for me.
Working with children was quite hard, so I can understand that a lot of contestants had trouble with getting a good shot. The kids were quite large compared to our own characters... and they were just like kids, never doing what you wanted.
As for the meeting, I think Lion's Arch ID1 would be the best starting point. We can move from there if there seems to be a need. And the time I suggested before (11pst; 2est; 7gmt) should work the best for most people I think. So let's keep it at that? It will be 9 pm here where I live, and I really can't make it any later. Also making it earlier wouldn't be too nice since some people will have to wake up real early.

Firstly, all this "drama" immediately reminds me of someone during the interviews who asked me something along the lines of "Is TNTM scripted?". No, no it is not scripted, I do not tell any of our contestants how to react or anything to that sort lol
Secondly, every week, someone has to complain about their comments. One of the first things I said to everyone was "We are going to be rude and critiquing will be harsh" and asked and prepared alot of you on what you could expect and all of you jumped and said yes. And every week, someone just acts so shocked that they're being attacked. Wake up, this is the industry. Either you can stand strong and shine through or crumble to pieces, thats your decision, but make the right one.
Anyways, here are some brief comments that our other judge had to say...
Arala - very classy shot
Beyoncee - did not feel emotional connection between characters
Bierflesjes - Wardrobe malfunction very distracting
Lokii - Cunning story to picture, very fun
Lunamaria - Funny story, but picture looks like manhandling child
Miss - Endearing picture, most emotional but lacks child's face
Mila - butt looks too big
Mojave - (This is where I draw the line on rude comments)
Szei - Great picture, very believable.
Alight, the scores are all added up and we have our MOTW and eliminated contestant ready to announce later today. Good Luck to everyone!

I would like to remind everyone that while the spam rules are lax in here there are a whole set of rules that are being enforced... Please, if you really truely have a problem with stuff thats said in this thread or what the judges say, please bring it up in private. Either Me for forum issues, or Lady Nilene for contest issues. I don't want to have to come back in here and have to clean crap up.
And yes I do have my opinions about what the judges said this week, but meh its not really worth arguing or complaning about.
Anyway, carry on.
As for the get together that is to take place about 10 or 11 hours from now or so... I should be around for a little bit hopefully, and I hope Szei can be there with Ivan. =P

Jaden's Tip of the Week
The Importance of Cropping
This weeks segment is going to deal with cropping and the importance of doing it right. Cropping your photo correctly can create a completly new feel to the exact same picture. These two pictures are of course the same shot. One is a better overall shot, But the other is more suited for this competition. So today I'm going to go over what I like to do when cropping and what I look for.
Pick the photo you like and go with it. Once you've found that special shot take a few different crops. It never hurts to try a few different Crops. I usually recrop a few different times just to see what it could look like.
To much open space is wasted space. In general try not to leave large areas of open space in your shots. If there's nothing there, get rid of it.
symmetry is your friend. Try to keep the width from your focal point even on both sides to draw attention to what you want to show. However the exact opposite of this can work as well, forcing your character to one side of the shot can also create a nice look. Just remember there is no inbetween and sloppy cropping can ruin a good shot.
Crop according to the assignment. Remember you are on a mission each week. Make sure to focus on what needs to be focused on.
Cropping is not just there to resize your photo, or to remove the unsightly elements. It can really change the entire feel of your picture and it really seperates the good shots from the bad. So don't think your done after you find that perfect shot, because it can be so much more with a little editing effort.
PS. this seasons competetors are a bunch of cry babies

Anyway, have fun at the meeting guys.

Thank you <3 your shot was really cute and pretty too.
I think Jaden's shot is taken just outside Tsumei Village in Panjiang Peninsula (there's a cute little shrine there as well <3).
Personally I love Beyoncee's shot, I commend the effort put into it and I think her clothes are just perfect. Hotpants ftw \o/.
I so wanted to do that same kind of pose Lokii did with the kid, it's just way too cute <3. If I'd had a monk I certainly would have.
I was wondering, you girls who took pictures in Vabbi, couldn't you turn around the kids? Their already dark faces are all lost in the shadows, which is a pity. Szei hasn't made it to Vabbi yet so I couldn't test it.. but I noticed those Canthan kids in DP couldn't be turned around like normal npc's.
Oh, and to the judges;
Quote:
Judge 1: I'm particularly glad that you did tone it down, we saw pictures that you took with the npcs before, and it was horrible. We weren't sure if you we're just playing around or not, but you left the jug focus item on, and that could really be taken the wrong way. So I'm just pleased that you we're aware of looking like a mother in the submission.
|
The pics I posted previously were spoofs/accidents, which I thought was pretty obvious too.

I'm not 100% sure but if you count the daylight savings it'd be 10pm here.

I was hoping people would play nice, but it's starting to look like in a few rounds no one will be talking anymore...
Anyway, Lion's Arch, 7 pm GMT. I'll be there! It'll be so nice to meet you guys!
EDIT: Noa, that's 9 pm Europe central time, Daylight saving puts us at GMT+2 instead of +1

Ah, true.... I always get confused with that. Although I remember there being daylight savings in North America too? Which would still put them at seven hours time difference counting from the east coast, so it would be 9pm here when it's 2pm there. So technically my calculations should be correct.... maybe..... agh, I'll just show up at nine, and then wait the hour if I wasn't right. :P
Sihaya, Szei and I live in Finland, which is about 1 hour time difference with European central time We're situated more to the east so we share the same time with eastern European countries.
All this time counting is confusing... x_x

Oh, I thought Finland had the same timezone as Belgium... Since Denmark and Sweden share it, I assumed it was the same for Finland. My mistake!
That would make it 10PM for you guys, though...
