Here's my n52 layout. Be aware that this is desgined for use by a Warrior who is following targets called by someone else. I've tried using it for a healer, and it became painfully obvious that I need a different layout specificaly for that. I'm currently working on one now, and once I've gotten it sorted out, I'll post that as well. I think that this profile would work well for most any other class besides a healer though, as it allows quick targetting and easy application of your skills.
Also, I am not currently running any shift-modes, but I am planning on setting up some for use in towns for the non-combat actions like opening the inventory screen, guild screen, etc...
One thing I have found that is missing from this profile is a weapon swap button. Previously I had no real use for it, but now that I am swapping between a few different weapon sets, I will probably map button#15 to weapon cycle.
N52 Button - Keyboard Key
1 4
2 3
3 2
4 1
5 T
6 8
7 6
8 5
9 4
10 SPACE
11 L-Shift (TeamSpeak Push-to-Talk)
12 C
13 CTRL
14 TAB
Push Scroll Wheel = ALT
Orange Thumb Key = ESC
ThumbPad WASD
For some reason, I cannot get the profile editor to display the macros I am using for the d-pad diagonals, but they should just be a combination of the two driection keys. Use Press only (without depress) and no delays in between each press, and it should work fine.

The single most frustrating aspect of customization for me has been that Guildwars treats modifier keys as unique keys instead of as modifiers. I would prefer to have the option of it being either (but obviously not both). With some degree of carpal tunnel, I find using the keyboard as much as possible to cause much less strain than using a mouse extensively. As such, I tend to favor the numpad and in other games I will overload the numpad keys by using the CTRL and ALT keys. However, I tend to use the NUMLOCK as a key of its own instead of as a modifier. With the numpad 0-9 and DEL key, I have 33 possible key combos I can map right there on the numpad using the base key, ALT+base key, and CTRL+base key. I really miss that level of flexibility in Guildwars.
The other thing that I find frustrating is the lack of chat tabs. I don't mind having one window but I'd like to have tabs. Again, in other games I will replicate guildchat to a separate tab, tells to a separate tab, and trade channel chat to a separate tab. Then if the main window scrolls too fast, I can switch tabs quickly to find what was said to me in a tell or guildchat, or some deal from the trade channels.
My last frustration with the UI is the inability to customize font sizes independent of resizing the entire UI. You can get around that by resizing upwards though if you need larger fonts, then manually customizing downwards the other windows to a smaller size. So this issue has a workaround.
My own customizations have been to move more components into a smaller and tighter density on the screen to maximize viewing space. I like the customizations that are available, but if the above issues could be addressed someday (modifier keys and chat tabs) then I'd find the UI to be superb.

Well i think somebody hit the nail on the head for me - i have done very minor customizations but to be completely honest once I learn the defaults - i find i'm just as fast with the keys i need to use as someone who's redefined them all.
it's all a matter of preference really
Being a CS addict (and quickly becoming a GW addict) I realize the mouse is now and forever will be my control of choice. After playing for some 7 hours straight last night I had no discomfort in my wrist or my hands. Although I think it is still going to hit me later after a few weeks of playing. I tend to use the mouse-view ALOT and so i'm wondering if I'm going to wear out my mouse. I don't want it on permanently or anything crazy - i simply use it alot. Call it a throw back to my FPS days.
I am very impressed by some of the GUI customizations you all have done and I'm going to go home and start tweaking mine this evening. cheers to those of you who have paved the way.

I have tried to make everything vertical and all that jazz, this seems to keep me on the ball in PvP, you look at one spot and everything you need is right there.

I have and use the nostromo 52 speed pad. Its great with every game ive played...Halflife 2, Counter Strike, i only use the keyboard for typing messages. Its great.
I pulled up my menu and extracted the icons out so i dont have to use a big window when i want to see the area minimap, access inventory, etc. The icons are very small so it doesnt interfere with game play. In fact, you dont even notice them. instead of using buttons I click the icon.

Too, i notice that some of these set ups seem like it would be hard to zoom in close to the character and be able to see everything. I like the option of being able to get in close. I try to keep the bigger windows close to the top
If you guys could tell me how to take a screen shot and put it on here , ill post mine

I just started to play with my interface today. But I'm having two big problems. I had all of my interface on the bottom of the screen and it all looked really nice till I went out to play. The pop ups from the skill bar cover all most all of my interface. Dose anyone know any way to turn this off? In the interface option you can only turn off the skill bar and in options disable hints will do nothing about it. The other problem that I'm having is with going from full screen to windowed an back. The windowed mode for guild wars is 1024x768 but I play full screen at 1280x1024 as it is my desktop size. With the standard interface layout this is no problem but with mine going from windowed to full screen or the other way around all of my interface gets messed up. This is annoying as I use windowed mode when I'm just in a town, exploring, or between battles in pve and pvp. I do this so I can use my secondary monitor as it is my desktop and I normally play and look at the forums, chat, or mess around with winamp play lists. So as a second question does anyone know how I can change the size of windowed mode? All I want is to be able to move my mouse to my other monitor. Going from windowed to full screen is pretty much instant but it can take a very very long time to minimize and maximize and windowed to full screen can take around 4 or 5 seconds if I use 1024x768 as a full screen option as the display has to be resized. That doesn't sound like much but it can mean death in the middle of a mission if I try to change the song on winamp as someone goes for the next group and I don't notice as I wouldn't know what was happening in the game for around 10 seconds. I have to say that I really like Echo Eternal's setup and it gave me an idea for another setup that isn't bothered by the skill pop ups from the bar but is messed with even more when I window and then full screen again.
As for controls I use my mouse for all my skills and the keyboard for movement and almost all targetting. I have tried changing a few around but didn't like it so I'm going to have to set down some time and make a full remap. I will likely move to an esdf setup so I can use qaz with my pinky. The n52 looks really nice I might have to try that. I saw that someone was talking about the high price. I found that Bestbuy has it for 38 bucks and you wouldn't have to wait for shipping as I think most towns have one. If you have to get it online I would say look at newegg as they have it for 30.
Not to get real off topic but some of you have been bringing up mics. I have never used ts or vent but see people talking about them all the time. It seems hard to jump into a hoh team with out them and I keep seeing more about them at uw an fow now. How are they really? I have a pretty small guild and we all just use skype. Can anyone make a comparison possibly?
022 is the setup I have been playing with... but the skill bar can make a real mess of things if you leave your mouse over something to long. Also 021 is the idea I got from seeing Echo Eternal's.

HOW DID YOU GET IT TO GO VERTICAL?! I've been trying 37242837482 times to get it to do that to put everything on the sides (I like watching everything on the screen, more boxes (however integral they are) just take away from the scenery)! I shall have to go try again... no doubt I missed a corner when checking for a 'rotate' function.
Here's my current GUI, but it will be changing a little soon

There's isn't a "rotate" option. You just grab the corner of the item and size it tall and narrow. For example, grab the top or bottom right corner and drag it up and left. Also, I don't think your screenshot is big enough. <- sarcasm... tongue in cheek, but it is a bit large.
Here's my UI and a quote of my earlier post in this thread.

Most everyone uses the arrow keys or WASD, but I use ESDF because the F key has the little notch on it and my index finger normally falls on it from typing. E=forward D=backward S=strafe left F=strafe right. If I want to "turn", I use the mouse and the right mouse button. I have auto-run set to the thumb button on my mouse (5 button intellimouse). With D set as backwards, C is easily accessible for "target closest". I have "tab" set to cycle targets.

Is there a way to turn off the skill descriptions when you scroll over an attack skill?
It pops up and blocks the effects monitor.
Disable Hints has no effect.

This is also what I'm trying to get rid of. I have been all over the options and the customize menus and haven't found any way to do it. So the only other options are, there is a command flag that you can use to get rid of it. Unlikely and if there is one it would probably get rid of a lot of other things. The second options is anet makes this part of a update in the future.
So it looks like we can only sit and wait.
