LDoA under 17 hours
I wanted to see how quickly you could get LDoA, so I created a character 2 days ago.. It can be done faster because I spent an hour doing other things.

Hmm, mind sharing how it was done? Hints, even? I'm at 65kxp after 25 hours - not that I'm aiming to do it asap. How much assistance, if any, did you receive? In any case, congrats.

No assistance, I used a BloodMagic and Vigor rune, and /me secondary for Ether Feast.
Rinse and repeat killing the two bandits outside Foible's Fair. I focused more on Wilderness rather than Marksmanship to keep Survivor.
What profession are you Marty?

Just put a bit more focus into healing than damage, as your fire imp will do most of it.
And stock up on movies or a TV-series as it's extremely dull, and you just might save your sanity.
Zone out, attack ice elem, use any regen like Troll Unguent, Healing Breeze, attack nearest bandit and run back towards shrine. Kill, /resign (or Enter, up, Enter), repeat.
My average time was killing 2 bandits/min.
Oh yeah, lvl 13 or 16 is best to do quests. 19 is not needed as you get double exp compared to 13/16, and a 19 imp is just an insane killing machine.

The tedious but sure way is to just do Charr at the Gate. That's basically what I did with my necro:
1. Follow Rurik to charrs. When charrs is within radar, summon imp. Ignore flowers.
2. Tag a few charrs with a bow, Life Siphon etc, then step back.
3. When 3 charrs dead, quickly map back to Ascalon, zone out and repeat.
I measured the effectiveness of killing 4 charrs, or leave 1 charr alive. It's not a big difference but 3 charrs and map back to Ascalon was slightly faster exp for me.
4. Load up on good TV series or movie to enjoy that you can watch same time. It will save your sanity. Don't cash in any exp reward than the very first necro test. Pick a secondary without finalize it. For example mesmer for a quick 60hp heal, or ranger for troll unguent and pet. If monk, a Healing Breeze @0 still gives 120hp total.
5. Save all your quest rewards until level 16, that's the worst level. 13 and 19 are also hard, but 16 is best. At 19 you'd have a mighty strong imp and good spells. Doing LDoA in a few days is all about beating 8-9, 13, 16, and 19 as quick as possible. Rest of levels are cake.
I believe I watched a House of Cards marathon while doing LDoA myself

What level are you now? I could always help you level from say 8-10 on charr runs if you need. Got another lvl 19 ranger in Pre.

LDoA took me 3 years....
Somehow the new way of doing it makes me sad (though the old way was intensely frustrating).

True
Personally I was hoping they would've made this title more meaningful. Exactly how did you defend Ascalon (before and after the change). Now imagine they added a challenge mission instead:
Quote:
Northlands - Challenge Mission
Help defend Ascalon city against the invading charr armies.

Charrs would attack in waves, and for each wave they grow a bit stronger. Up to the point that they would give xp at level 20. You'd start just below the wall by Ascalon City where you can see charrs constantly attacking, then you push deeper into their territories for more XP/rewards. Rewards would be mostly fame, but perhaps also trophies you could trade for customized items (not too overpowered items though).
