GW Fanfic: The Shiverpeak Trial
This is just a little fanfic I just wrote. It doesn't have any plot to it really, I just wanted to try one out to see how it went. If you all like it, I might do one with a bit of story to it.
The cold breeze whipped around Bale's face and he drew his scarf up above his nose and pressed onwards with his party. Rianna, the elementalist, paused breifly to conjure a small ball of heat to keep her warm, and then continued on towards the foot of the mountain. Bale was about to call his party to a halt and rest when an arrow whizzed past his head, thudding into the crisp snow.
"We're under attack!" cried Bale, diving into the snow behind a large boulder, and watched as his party did the same. "Can you see how many there are, Desan?" He called to the warrior, his voice nearly lost in the wind and sound of speeding arrows.
"5,6....no, 7" The warrior called back, bringing his shield to cover his flank as another arrow narrowly missed his arm.
Shugos the monk closed his eyes and concentrated his holy power in front of him, muttering a prayer to Dwayana as he prepared his spell. He felt the divine spirit curl around his thoughts, and his spells became lighter as he drew on their power in his mind.
"Charge!!" called Desan, abandoning his position and hurling himself through the blizzard towards the Rangers of the Stone Summit. Bale did the same, standing up and calling on Grenth as he focused his power into a hazy green aura that surrounded his party: the Order of Pain.
Rianna rose from the ground, wind whipping her scarf across her face, but unfaltering her spell as she cast a huge ball of fire into the blizzard towards the attackers. Bale shouted over the snow storm to her, his voice battling against the undying wind:
"Rianna!" he called. "Can you try and stop this blizzard?" She nodded her reply and focused her energy on her self, touching on the power of air that hid within her. She raised her arms and focused her will on the wind, trying to create a counter-vortex to slow the blizzard. Ebbing with energy, the winds around them slowed, and Bale managed to get a glimpse of Desan, battling furiously with his enormous sword against the 3 Stone summit carvers surrounding him. Bale noticed the Ranger still perched on the ledge above them and moved closer into range. He felt the foe's presence, and then his own, and with a fearsome shout, brought them togther in a giant life transfer. Rianna noticed Bale's action and moved to assist him, hurling repeated balls of fire and lightning until the Ranger collapsed, his corpse falling off the ledge onto the snow at Bale's feet.
With practised ease, he immdeiatley cast a spell on the dwarven corpse, and the bones and limbs of the fallen melded togther before his eyes, the hot blood gushing onto the snow, staining and melting it into a black slush. The bone fiend rose from the corpse, and Bale merely glanced at it before moving on to assist Desan.
"I'm attacking Stone summit Carver!" He cried to Bale and Rianna, bringing his sword across his chest to deflect a crude axe blow from the carver. Its pale eyes gazed out from the black pits of its helmet with hate and disgust upon its face. Degan parried another two blows before pluning his sword up through the carver's ribs with a final thrust. He span round, only to find another two carvers hacking brutally at Shugos, and ran to help. One of the Carver's landed a deadly blow between Shugo's shoulders, and he fell to one knee, failing to defend more attacks with his staff. A swift shop from the other Carver landed over his wrist and he dropped his staff, desperately trying to cast a healing spell on himself, but the closest dwarf anticipated his move and brought his shiled down on Shugos' head, knocking him out.
Desan charged into the nearest dwarf, bringing him to the floor, and quickly executed him with a savage slash. The other span round quickly and deflected antoher of Desan's attacks with a quick parry, but Desan feinted left, only to do a quick spin on his right and break the dwarf's stance. He thrust forward, and finished the Carver with a quick thrust through the neck.
Bale and Rianna hurried back to Shugo and Desan ater despatching the rest of the Stone Summit in the vicinity. Rianna raised her left hand, a glowing signet between her fingers, and Shugo stood up uneasily.
"Thank you" he said graciously, and Rianna nodded in acceptance.
"I don't think we're out of trouble just yet," muttered Bale and the others turned to see where he was looking. A fearsome looking dwarf, with a horned helmet in the shape of a Yak's head, and carrying a large bladed Hammer was facing them, mounted on the back of a Giant beast with large claws and glowing red eyes.
"I am Ungor Granitegrip!" the newcomer spoke in a gutteral voice, his mount bending low to bring him cloer to the group. "and you are trespassing on my turf." he immdeiatley drove his mount forward in a mad frenzy, and the group dived out of its path. Bale, having learnt the ways of a mesmer as well as a necromancer, concentrated his power into a glowing shield around him that would protect him from physical damage. Rianna did the same, also being half mesmer. Desan charged in with an enraged battle cry of "For Great Justice!" and hacked at the giant's legs with a pure strike. Ungor screamed in anger as Shugo, Bale and Rianna launched wave after wave of fiery and bloody bolts at the giant, bu the attack faltered when Rianna stopped, drained of energy. Bale quickly pulled out a carved ritual knife, and made 3 quick incisions across his palm and wrist, quickly opening and closing his fist to keep the blood from clotting. He ran over to Rianna and planted a bloody hand on her shoulder, and felt his blood converted into energy for her to use. She smiled in gratitude and launched a fiery pheonix toward's Ungor's giant. The Giant roared in anger, and Ungor saw an oppurtunity and took it. The giant's mighty thick legs and hands fell forward as Ungor smacked the giant's head with his hammer, and the giant toppled forward, stamping on the ground as Desan was lost under the immense weight with a crack of breaking bones and a gurgling scream.
Shugo watched horrified as Desan was sucked under the giant in a fell swoop, bones breaking and ribs cracking. Focusing his power into a ball of fiery elementalist magic (his second mastery) he unleashed a blazing immolate spell, whcih felled the giant in a ball of burning flesh. Ungor managed to escape the accident with remarkable speed, and chraged straight for Shugo
But Bale was already there, approaching Ungor from behind, and with a deep hatred in his eyes, he brought out his ritual knife again, making deep incisions in his body, keeping his hand locked around Ungor's bare neck. The pain of the cuts was directed straight to Ungor, and he cried out in anguish and pain as Bale's agony flooded through him. In a last, final incision, Bale collapsed at Ungor's feet, his corpse exploding in a giant wave as he did so. This final attack was enough, and Ungor also collapsed onto the ground, his body covered in a thin layer of snow even before he hit the ground, as the wind had caught up again.
Rianna and Shugo bowed their heads and Shugo knelt down to say a few words to Dwayana over the dead bodies of Bale and Desan before moving on. The shiverpeaks were a dangerous place, but hopefully with Bale and Desan's sacrifice, the monk and the elementalist could make it to Deldrimor war camp before sundown without being attacked again.
