I think that's way over the top.
I like the new patch but ANet need to sort the AI so they can tell the difference between AoE that hits once and AoE that continues to hit.

Overall smarter ...yes, in comparsion to the average player:
How many times have we been in FoW and witness ppl just standing around in a Firestorm like its a spring shower? Least the AI moves...now
How many times have we been frustrated to the point of wanting to reach thru our screens and move a weaker classed party member AWAY from the continual damaging their taking?
Before the update all our mobs were just cows in Charr, Hydra, Stone Summit clothing. Only thing missing was the sound effect of moooooooooo'ing (moo, moo, MOOOOO, moo, MOO -lol secret cow level anyone?)
Hell I even had the experience last nite in Hells Precipe with an Ele figting at melee range with Titans - wonder how many monks that person pissed off on his way to level 20 and END game content???

I made a ranger last night... it's gonna be a while before he can do this and I think A-net will probrably fix it before I get a chance to try it... :'( Whats really good is to get a bunch of tanks to block in something like Glint. then have an Ele or two do AoE skills...
*tries to run but can't. all while getting pummeled with meteors, fireballs, and icicles*

Make sure you have a Mesmer to cancel Hibernation, or you'll just be healing Glint!

For all you Mo/E's out there you can really benefit from this patch. Low on health? Lava Front is the answer.

Since the drake is an AI and acting totally stupid, it makes me wonder if one can make any safe assumptions about the ones who created this form of AI?

they also run from fire storm almost instantly I.e. no dmg grrr. It seems that the ai had been programmed to move after a time interval of about 2 secs after been hit by aoe (not sure about the time maybe longer) I also think that this time interval is activated after been in a constant (fire storm meteor shower) aoe or been hit by aoe once or twice (once fire ball etc twice M.O.P).

Yeah, Lava Font is my new favorite spell because of the new AI. You'll never have a creature get within melee range of you, especially melee creatures. I have had level 24 creatures, Mountain Trolls, I believe, but also every creature, come in, do say 50 points of damage a hit, but because they took say 24 points of fire damage from lava font, they go run off and then run around like their near death having a panic attack. Also by the time they come back, Lava Font is recharged and ready to cast again and I repeat the whole process, eventually they'll die from hits in the back from other fire spells and I stay alive casting healing breeze why they are running around. What gets me the most though, is they are frigging melee creatures, they have no other way to damage you. There only chance to kill you is to come in and melee with you, but because you take 24 points away from their 500 total, for some reason they think they are better off running away, and it doesn't matter they have you out numbered 3 to 1 and are doing 50 points a swing and thats the only way they have to kill you. And when they do run, they don't go whip out a bow or a wand, they don't go hide behind a wall and heal, they just run around to come back later. Also, whats funny with Fire Storm, is they'll take damage for the first 2 seconds, run off for 4 seconds, and then come back and sit in the AOE for the remainder 4 seconds and take damage, they miss 5 seconds of attacking you for running.
With the new AI, it makes the game different but easier if you play it right, they don't look or act smarter, just different maybe even more stupid. The way I seen it, they was too hell bent on killing you to know it was raining fire, now they are acting like the world is coming to an end and sometimes it's from getting scratched. I didn't like this change to begin with, don't really like it now, but I don't want A-net to change it. It takes a while to learn to take of advantage of it and lets face it, all computer AI will and can be taken advantage of, it will always be predictable, unlike humans. But what gets me really the most is that henchman still go and stand and hang out in the swamp that causes poison, even though you are on safe ground, a lot of times they will sit there until they die. You would of thought this would have be higher priority.
This AI could be fixed and keep getting tweaked, to where its just like playing against humans. I definitely don't want this and I could imagine the horror of game play and testing done live by the players with each new AI tweak update, that update was painful enough. But a lot of AOE spells are useless, none are good for doing damage, just good for making creatures running around.
