Default Scriptures!

These are the scriptures for the gods that can be found by approaching any statue for them in Tyria. It is noticable that one or two say something like 'And then' at the start, showing these scriptures are only extracts from something bigger. Surely, in the early days, religious intellects of Tyria must have written manuscripts/books for their Gods, like bibles, giving information on the ways to go by if you are a follower of that God, through its stories, and possibly poems. In the writing (that I am about to give you some information/advice for), make sure you convey a message/moral to the reader, something related to the particular god.

So, go ahead, write your own scriptures to be put in the Gods' manuscripts.

Be sure to take a look at Book 1 (lore of Guild Wars) of the two that came with the game. For historical reference, you may want to look at Chapter 1: History of Tyria. Unfortunately it does not give information of how the gods first came about, but it starts with how the Gods placed the serpents on Tyria to be guardians as they created the world. Other interesting parts might be the creation and initial prosperity but arrogance of humans, the serpents leaving to the Crystal Desert, the creation of magic, the wars that resulted from this, the journey of King Doric to Arah to plead with the Gods, the Gods' act of trapping the magic inside a stone and splitting it into four pieces and a keystone, and the 'Exodus' (The Gods leaving Tyria - Note with dates, BE is before Exodus, AE after)(And another note, on the timeline it says the serpents left Tyria 174 years after the exodus, even though in the writing it is ordered otherwise). Presumably, anything after the Exodus has nothing to do with the Gods, and though these religious records would have been written after, they would only include up to the Exodus. You only may want to say that in the centuries after the Exodus, Tyria flourished again.

Also, take a look at Chapter 3, the Old Gods, for some information on the Gods. That's pretty much it for reference. Even, if you like, you could take a look at the White Mantle in Chapter 2 and write some religious stuff for them about Saul D'Alessio and the worship of the Unseen.

And, of course, take a good look at the ones up there if you didn't ingame already.

And, if you find doing it for the current gods too hard, you could always make up your own for Canthan Gods. Just make it serious and if you can 'olde style' writing like the ones shown above. Make sure to include a date, and make sure that date is BE(before exodus)! Good luck, lets hope we get far with this! It could take a fair bit of effort, but good work if you go ahead and write some.

(And, excuse me for being a history/religious nerd if that's what you think, but please don't say it, I thought this could be a really interesting writing subject here. And, PS: I have some other ideas for writing that I will bring up later when this one is under way).

-------------------------------------------------

(Seeing as I just started this and haven't really the time now, I won't write anything until later when I do have the time).

(this is the start of Dwayna's scriptures. Note: The scriptures of the different Gods have different writings as to the creation of the world and its very beginnings thousands and thousands of years ago)

In the beginning, the five Gods did emerge from their rest, awoken by the great watchers of all that did exist. With Dwayna at their head, they did choose a place in the vast space of time and motion, and with their great hands they began to create matter. As they did so, they talked on how to create a perfect world. Dwayna, great God of life and air and the first of the five, stated that there should be four parts to the world: the land, the water, the air, and life. Lyssa, goddess of beauty and illusion, did suggest a world of great sights, beautiful creatures and purple winds. Balthazar, the God of war and fire, told his idea of a world of kingdoms with mighty armies, forging weapons and great defences in the fires they could make. Melandru, the god of nature, did give an idea similar to Dwayna, but made emphasis on living things and the preservation of the world to be made. And with uneasiness did the four turn to Grenth, last of the Gods, God of death ice. He spoke not until they did urge him, for they knew that he would regret so and become angry with time. And so Grenth told them of a world with life but death to end it, and a cold haven under the world for those who had died to rest. He said no more, though the others knew his ambitions would be somewhat larger.

With that the Gods began to create the world in earnest. It was not a sphere or a circle, nor was it any other shape - it was merely a world of matter. On Dwayna's ideas they did create three layers to the world, the land, the water and the air. For Lyssa they moulded it into beautiful shapes, with colours and patterns for all to behold. With Balthazar's will did they create stone and different materials, and the basis for fire to be made. Alone did Grenth begin to make a fourth layer, under the waters and the lands, the underworld, cold and icy and with great structures to hold the dead.

And then, Dwayna and Melandru leading, did the Gods create life. First did they make the plant kingdom. Melandru took particular interest, filling the earth with nutrients and placing thousands of green plants all across it. There were very small plants such as grass, and colossal ones, such as the giant trees of the Maguuma Jungle. Then did Melandru and Lyssa cast wind into the world, bringing waves on the sea and movement to the plants, and providing the very substance on which all life depended. And with that they did turn to the seas, and filled them with fish and other creatures, the first of the living creations of the animal kingdom. Balthazar said to the others that the world must have light, with days and nights, to keep it warm and allow vision. Light, he said, should also be needed to keep plants alive. The biggest light came from his own fiery creation, the Sun, and the Moon was the bringer of darkness, which Balthazar let Grenth create.

Now did they turn to the land. With the plants covering it did they place upon it animals. These were unlike fish, for they had arms and legs with hands and feet. Like fish they had eyes for vision, and Lyssa made sure they were as beautiful as they could be. The first of these was a race of huge beings, the Giganticus Lupicii, who were to be the world's first guardians. Then they created smaller things: elementals, dragons, trolls, drakes, arachnids, flying-squid or wind-riders, tengu, wolves, skale, and many others.

For a long time following this did the Gods watch the world. They created several continents, Tyria and Cantha being the largest. They watched the life they had created prosper, and when anything died it fell into rest in Grenth's underworld. But after a while, the Giganticus Lupicii seemed to become careless. They towered over other creatures, and often walked over them or killed them. And, to Melandru's dismay, they seemed to take no care for plants. So, with haste did the Gods wipe out the great giants. They felled rocks on the huge creatures, re-moulding the landscape as they did so. The giants then began to disappear on their own, presumably running. It is even possible that they did enter the water, evolving into swimming creatures and leaving the Tyrian continent, at least.

Without the giants, the world continued, and was certainly better than before. Here and there, the Gods continued the creation, always finding something to work on. But soon, they began to fear that violence would break out among the creatures. They knew as Gods that they would not stay in this world for long, and in their final phase of creation they would need new creatures to be the custodians of the world, to continue guarding and watching over it after they left. And so they did create the serpents. They were not normal serpents, for they walked upright, and were much more intelligent. And they began to carry out their task.

Watched over by the serpents, the world did flourish. Within all its far corners, all the living things lived well. But something seemed missing. Where was the mighty race that would organise itself, build structures, and worship to the Gods that created them? They must create such a race, so they told themselves. And so they did, with Balthazar in command, for he believed this was his race that would become mighty kingdoms with armies and weapons forged in the fire.

And they named this new race the race of humans, to dominate all others, except for the serpents. The humans were to be the most organised and creative of the races, whereas the serpents would still be the most intelligent, the wisest, the world's guardians. And, most of all, the humans were to be moulded as models of the gods themselves, though not a millionth as large and forged from skin and tissue, a material created by Melandru herself.

The humans were the last of the living creations, though the Gods still had other creations to come, in time.

Can we decide on a date for when they created the world, like 100 BE?
Book of Balthazar: Chapter Two (Continuation from the beginning part)
When the five great gods each gave the mortals a singular gift of their own, Dwayna gave the mortals the art of healing. Lyssa gave the arts of drama and music, and Melandru gave the gift of farming. But Balthazar gave the gift the mortals most gladly took, the gift of flame, and the mortals heeded his call of war for the rest of eternity. All the gods gave a gift save one, the doomed lord of darkness, Grenth. He demanded Dwayna explain why should all the gods give a gift, but he should have to give two. He had already given mortals the gift of death.

Blood Book of Grenth: Chapter of Limbs --- (A book that you must sacrifice yourself to enter. Chapter of Limbs is last chapter, and to read it you must sacrifice a limb)
After all the gods were satisfied with their creations, Grenth asked, Why should He have no mortal realm of his own? Melandru had her Jungle, Lyssa had Kryta, Kingdom of the Arts, Dwayna had thousands of temples, and Balthazar owned the battlefield. Yet, Grenth had no hold over any Tyrian land save the Underworld, only accessable to those already dead. So as all the other gods turned their backs, Grenth stole a piece of Balthazar's Immortal Flame, and cast it upon the Earth to create the dreaded Ring of Fire. Little did Grenth realize that Dwayna had saved the largest section of all, the great spined Shiverpeak Range, for the Cold One.

Yes, I referred to that when writing mine. And the world I would say was created about 15,000 BE, for the timeline states that the last signs of the Giganticus Lupicus - the great giants (which I mentioned in my story) was 10,000 BE.

Ok lets make my Grenth part now .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Grenth created the underworld he began to create it to his heart desire it whas his world annyway. First he created the Ice wastes where the most coldhearded of his minions could stay. After that he created the labyrinth as a entrance to the Underworld.
The forgotten vale whas created after that there the souls of normal death citizens and the more confused ones could stay for all eternity.
The bone pits are a special case Grenth created those with his own blood making this the only place where the dead could escape but for a price, They whill never be the same as mortals but more like abominations heaps of bones and flesh saying only but 1 thing, Brainzzzzzzz..zz.zz.z.zzz.
After that the spawning pools where created the one place where nightmares are created and all the other things that frighten the mortal world, At the same time he accidentely created the Terrorwebs wich would cause much trouble in the near future.
The Chaos planes where created after that it whas meant to be a lush forest where the death animals could stay but 1 undead Warlord would take it over and make a gigantic tower in the middle of it destroying all of the woods, Grenth came in between and banished the warlord together with the tower now only a empty plain remains where you can see undead Horseman wander.
After that soon the god whas challenged by 2 brothers the god whas furious and created the Twin serpent mountains trapping the 2 brothers in it.
He looked down on his land and saw that it whas good but not finished.

He planted a statue of Grenth in each of the sections of the Underworld where 1 reaper would rule and keep everything in hands.
He looked down once again and saw that something missed once again.

Then the Labyrinths where habited by Aatxe's mad minotaurs that only listen to the whispers of Grenth they dont like tresspasers and whill kill you when you arent dead already.
The Grasphing darknesses where created to accompany the aatxe's in guarding the underworld, These squid like creatures where created out of the flesh and bones of dead humans and other creatures.
He created the Smite Crawlers and the Coldfire Nights that would wake over the Ice wastes, They would also guard eachother when in need.
Then he created the rest of the monsters Obsidian Behemoths, Death treshers Collectors and more but one creature he didnt see that whas created while he whas too bussy with other things the Terrorwebs, These bugs slowly started to grow in size and anger the anger of being created.
Soon a even bigger and more angry Terrorweb rose The terrorweb Queen.
Grenth looked down once again and saw that it whas good but something seemed not right he would do something about that later.

And so Grenth created his castle retreating back in it nobody ever saw him again in the Underworld only the reapers have contact with him now and only on special occasions.

Now the Terrorwebs have taken over the Underworld everything seems lost the undead are up to no good they need a leader and the other creatures are cowering in fear falling under the command of the Terrorwebs who whill rise to help the reapers and reclaim the underworld?
