I have had a quick scan off the topic and a few of u say that people should get photoshop with out mensioning the nice price tag US$599.00 Not for all people but u can get a trial version or at least u could.

those who cant draw, make sigs in photoshop, those who cant use adobe, paint (hehe) but im a nüb...so dont laugh too hard
here are a few i made and wanna show off
my newest creation, its gir from invader zim
my current one that i use, raziel, of course
and my old one, i used it as a template for the other, but i made a few changes, like the quote (this is a song quote, the other is one i made meself)
those are it for now, i will have more...just something i do in me free time

@Alias_X: Not sure what you mean... the render.. you can just find them on google and cut them out if they're not yet, and else look for renders they're usually already cut out. Or if you want to make it yourself, then you'd start of with a photo or a screenshot most of the time.
@Venus: Photoshop yep..

Yes, but Internet Explorer doesn't support transparent png's. I'm guessing you're viewing the site in firefox or some other browser. In IE the part that's meant to be transparent shows up white. Whilst jade's version works fine in any browser. I know png's are much higher quality, but until microsoft get themselves sorted and work support for png transparency into IE, GIF is the only way to go for transparent forum avatars, I'm afraid
