Winners of the "WTB Commission 400k" contest!
The name of the contest doesn't exactly fit anymore since the total contest prize went from 400k to 700k (thanks to Sister Calamine and Rancin The Blue for donating!). You can find the original thread for the contest here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10041149
The contest was to draw my mesmer Sanra Sprinkleworth (and, optionally, her warthog pet). The amount of entries (64!) and the quality of the entries is just mindblowing. I let some of my friends and some people from my guild help me decide the winners (in total, 18 people voted). Each of them voted for 12 favourites, giving 12 points to what they thought was the best entry and 1 point to the... er... least-best entry. I decided to dedicate the 3 last prizes for "honourable mentions". Entries which didn't quite hold up to the artistic quality of the 12 main prizes, but still deserving of a small prize. yeah nr 7 was awesome indeed, and I also liked Zoe, 11th, a lot. Shame Gwen on a plane didn't make it, with Sanra riding the boar, and the bergen hot springs pet-washing hehehe, very funny those.
But congratz to all, this was an incredible contest. Never seen so many good drawings, or expected so many artists to be on this forum! :O |

Wow.
I wasn't expecting a top three finish, let alone THE top spot. Thank you, everyone who put in a vote for me. I am honoured. For a kickass combination of artistic talent, original concept, and humour, Lili Frog's is my favorite. All of the other winners are great too. Not just the winners, but others too -- I'm disappointed that Gwen on a Plane, ixgluck, and DarkZeal did not place. One of the great things about art is how different people can take vastly different approaches to a given subject. This contest has reminded me of something I read once, though unfortunately I can't remember where I heard this from. A portrait is a dialogue between the artist and the subject. The artist seeks not merely to capture the subject's physical appearance, but to also capture the personality of the subject and to reveal his or her own feelings about the subject. Of course it's hard for most of us to really know Sanra, except to know that her creator is a patron of the arts.  IGN: Angelo Del Ferro |

These are just utterly utterly utterly amazing!
My personal favourite was the second place entry, but they are all absolutely superb! The Guild Wars community once again proves that it is filled with amazingly talented people. Congratulations too on coming up with this contest. I wish I had thought of it! |
