The problem with this is that the quality of any novel written for a licensed property is always really, really poor (yes, even WarCraft and Diablo). People who write licensed properties usually do so because they can't make it writing their own stuff, and while it might seem as simple to fix as hiring a competent author, any successful author would not waste time "slumming" around writing a licensed property. Why burden the franchise with substandard quality?

I disagree with you Sable. What grounds are there for saying a competent author who writes to a professional standard wouldn't be so in love with an established fiction as to write for that rather than creating their own?
I've read the short stories and fiction included in every GW manual. While the authors of this material are certainly competent, they aren't on a level beyond the scope of my abilities by *any* means; I'm sure there are many talented writers out there who're fans of GW and could produce a novel worthy of the license.
With that said, and being a matter of fact and not opinion...

PS: Before anyonegoesnotsigned comes along and points out my fics as an example of substandard ficaffery, I fully admit to taking absurd liberties and writing semi-seriously. If I were commissioned for a work, my attitude and the quality of my work would absolutely reflect the worth of the product. There's no reason for someone not to write a GW novel. I'd love to read one.

He's right you know.
/Not signed because nah jk XD
Of course /signed, but the mini stories on the websites and in manuscripts are not up to the level of most competent writers.
And I really hope is not one of those stories that follow Mhenlo and his crew -.-
It'll probably end up with a W/P as the leader/guy with troubled past with some ele or monk chick helping for strange reasons, then they fall in love, and blah blah.. will prolly have some sort of... say older guy for "wisdom", dervish or rit, and then tagged by a "young and immature" male monk and a "silent but deadly and resourceful" ranger. The big baddie is probably a nec or sin. And somehow the guy and girl are going to save the world via love.
Now it sounds like FF storyline except it lacks an animal party member (rangers got pets! O it can't talk =( ) and then some inorganic intelligent life.

Wow...directions and 10 sentence stories...what a thriller....
/signed because a GW novel would really rock and the manuscripts aren't really the highest level of writing there ever was...if you get my point

in GWG I've seen many ficitional stories from Gwen... well... alot of them are about Gwen lol. A book based on a game isn't that bad sometimes, like Halo. I enjoyed reading them, and Eric Nylund gives a very good grasp of putting in details to the journeys of the spartans.

A novel about guild wars is now my only interest in this game, I am prepared to give anyone all my game money (about 30k xDDD) if they write this novel for me... I know 30k isn't a lot, I'll also give them all my inGame items.
