Well people, taste is personal.. if it was up to me, Mondriaan would never be as famous as he is now. It's all taste, that decides whats art an whats not.
And Bexors art does differ a lot from the rest.

I must admit the result caught me by surprise, as well.
Nevertheless, a big congratulations to Bexor, and hats-off to everyone else too. It was interesting seeing so many different styles put together.
Thanks to Ninjakai for holding this contest!
p.s. I feel flattered to have gotten some recognition from Greyfox

I must preface this post by saying I never intended on posting in this thread again, and by stating that the only reason i am doing so is that its 2:56am, I've been drinking heavily since 9pm, and while i got her number i didn't seal the deal
It is Ninjakai's contest and he/she is automatically a cool S.O.B. for sponsoring such an art contest, ultimately it is his/her contest and he/she can do whatever the hell he/she wants to do.
However, I do feel it was slightly insulting to choose a winner who obviously doesn't exemplify the criteria listed. It would be one thing to state openly that the winner would be determined at random, but to propose that the winner would be decided from some predefined criteria and then sucker punch the assembled audience with such an upset is, i must say, in poor taste.
I know its hard to say this without becoming (or continuing to be, as the case maybe) an asshole, but there is a line where courtesy gives way to the honest truth, there were some very talented entries, which were above and beyond the norm. Among these where my own submission, the piece by Hurlant, and, though I honestly didn't like his balthazar piece, both ravensong's lyssa and genth line art pieces were amazingly well rendered and if the man knew how to color he'd have easily have won the gold.
Anyways, for what its worth, i'd have much rather seen the prize go to Hurlant, ravensong, or even Greyfox (Damn it man, you obviously have some awesome talent, get the hell away from poser, its pulling you down, you are capable of so much more without it!) Then have it given, apparently at random, to someone who, though i'm sure they spent some time on it, is not up to par with the top entries.
So yeah, there is my inebriated two cents, if yeah feel the need to rant at me, please do so over personal messages as I wont be on this thread again.
- Nith47, peace out

Hey everyone. Guess what the surprise for the event was. You've been fooled, the real contest winners are on the first page.
Sorry if my joke seemed cruel. However, when I said surprise, I meant surprise.

Well, I didn't really find it funny. And I hope BeXoR was in on the joke before hand, else that would have been extermely cruel...

Guess I should have tried a different surprise. Unfortunately whether or not I find something funny which may not be true can't be helped sometimes.
If anyone wishes to complain at me about the joke. Please do it via PM.
For everyone who wants a short reason. I'll sum it up in four words. I have aspergers syndrome.

No, I was not in on any "joke" beforehand.
While I am flattered to have been picked in the first place, I am surprised, for lack of a better word, to see what has happened here. I've been busy working on wiki related things and forgot that the ending date had passed.
Now, all personal opinions of art work and who should be winner aside, I am disturbed by the fact that soon after being announced winner, I was emailed a "Prophecies key". Then once NinjaKai had his opinion swayed by those in this thread I received another email stating that it was a hoax key. A day passed between these emails.
I wonder if whoever was chosen winner after me really got a valid key now.
I would appreciate it if you removed my work from your photobucket account now. I don't feel that you hold any credibility and I find it hard to believe your previous statements.
And for those wondering, no I did not do my piece the day before. I worked on the figure for a month. The background was rushed because I was ill in the beginning of the year and I completely forgot about the contest because of stress related to that.

That was... kinda low. I think you owe BeXoR an apology at the least. I hope what happened here doesn't discourage people from entering any future art contests.

I just remembered about this contest today, and when i got on i was like OMG. WHERE IS YOUR GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP GUYS?
BeXor, i think your drawing was great, and you've been a really good sport about this whole stupid 'joke'. And personally, I think the 'joke' really showed that Nith is a sore loser. I think its really stupid that someone who made a big deal (getting drunk?) about NOT winning should have won.
Seriously, who cares if your a good artist if your a freaking SORE LOSER? honestly Nith, no offense, but its ONE contest. it wouldnt have killed you if you didnt win. I think mystical miss should have won.
Mystical miss, (unlike some) was great about the whole thing. It's just terrible to insult anybody's art, whether it really is bad or not, and BeXor's drawing was not 'plain'. Look at it. REALLY look at it. I think its fantastic. not everyone could have done something like that. It's really beatiful BeXor, and i'm not just saying that.

BeXoR I am sorry. Unfortunately my interpersonal skills are poor due to my condition. And the amount of negative feedback caused me to doubt my decision. Thus, creating anxiety and panic which are things beyond my capability to handle.
Now to say what I really think. Nith47 and everyone else who questioned my taste. Shut up. I know what I like and you had no right to criticise what I like. Nith47 both yours and BeXoRs pieces met the basic critieria. But when it came down to it, I found BeXoRs more emotive. I just didn't feel anything from yours.
I thinks BeXoRs was the superior piece. I've said it and i'm glad. While, i'm not happy about how things turned out. I am glad I have finally found some self-confidence.
BeXoR once again I am truly sorry for what has happened. I do consider yours the superior piece. And that is the final word on this subject. I hope everyone understands that.
If anyone has any more complaints. Please post them. But don't expect me to read them.

wow...
I really hope that this contest does not sway any possible chances of another contest in the future, because by that last post, I dont believe anyone will trust one another anymore. And thats the sad part.
All I wanna say that each entry was beautiful and shows the vast amount of talent that is on this art thread. I believe BeXor should recieve the prize back, because that is just cruel to just take it away and give it to another by a persuasion of opinion. And if you cant/wont reply on this thread at least acknowledge that last statement I made.
btw, in Nith's defense (if you go read his post) he didn't get drunk because of this contest, atleast give him credit for that. He was just expressing his views, whether people liked it or not.

Ninjakai: You should have stuck by your original decision, just because people disagreed with your choice doesnt mean you had to change it, and in turn screwed over BeXor. But turning it into a whole joke thing just to appease some disgruntled people was rather unfair.

I think he has got the point now. It's not easy for him either at this point.
@ BeXor, I can see u worked hard on the body background did indeed turn it down on me its all a shortage of time I recon... could u however, try and finish it? I'd love to see the end result ^^ for the figure is in good shape (though wings seem a little odd, but I'd have to look at that again later).
@ Nith, please never be drunk again it's not always a bad thing. But drunken ppl may express themselves somewhat too direct at points...though I do share ur view on picking another winner. (Note BeXor, I like ur figure, but a finished piece is just.. well better.)
@ Ninjakai, don't go there... don't hide away in the corner. You have apologized for what u did, nothing more to do. We'd still like to hear about what u have say about the pieces.
@ Shadows requiem, he did apologize
@ Miss danshai, these people put a lot of work in their drawings, and I mean hours and hours of it. This joke therefore comes more cruel to them I recon. (I've spend hours as well, but I somehow seem to be able of being calm at all times )
@ The thing, that is a good response: from me too:
Thanks for holding the contest ninjakai, the guidelines were clear and the prize was high enough to get the good ppl in there.

QFT...yes i agree....art is very subjective....one man's meat is another man's poison....if you really felt that Bexor shouldve won...then by all means...go ahead and give him the prize.(It is your competition so only your opinion matters.) However i must say this..most(or all) artists are very protective of their work(i myself am too). We should respect other people's work and keep our comments to ourselves unless the artist herself/himself wants people to give constructive criticism about his/her piece of art. And i must make this statement clear...im not on anybody's side on this and im not criticizing/blaming anybody.
However i feel that BeXor got the brunt of it.

...taking the prize away from bexor and saying it was just a joke was a terrible idea!
....i mean maybe in my opinion bexor shouldnt win,for me there was far more better and more original pieces in the contest, but its just not right to take the prize away and say it was joke just becouse people disagree...can you imagine if something like that happens to you?
...and one more thing by saying it was a joke you automaticly made a joke about bexors painting, and somehow i got feeling you wanted to say: "Hah,it was a joke, you actually tought id let that crap win?"
...damn this was good contest turned really really bad....
(sry for spelling)
