Curse

NOTE: This is unrelated to the Jeldar of the Slayer story, it has the same details such as his pain after his awakening after the Searing, but he is a ranger. Also, I give credit to R.A. Salvitore for the character of Tephanis the pixie.

Prologue

Two tracks, side by side, could be seen in the terrain below the experienced ranger. Jeldar could tell by the differences in the impressions, someone, or something was being pursued. As he followed the trail, he found the beginning of a blood trail, and later found a corpse. "When will the killing stop? When will the evil that surrounds this place cease?" he said to his animal companion, a jaguar, Kenji. If Kenji understood his master's inquiry, he did not make any attempt at a reply. Jeldar bent down to get a better look at the corpse. It was clearly human, but without any visible signs of trauma, until he turned the body over. There were two parallel slashes along the back, which severed the spinal cord of the dead man causing death. This was a Charr's doing, and he would seek vengeance, for the dead man, and for the anguish he suffered when he awoke after the Searing.

The bloody carnage at the Charr camp was unspeakable. The ranger didn't care though, he had done what he had come for, and he was content. Revenge had been found for the dead man, but the ranger's spirit was still coping with the pain he suffered. The bushes rustled, and Jeldar's finely tuned senses meant he had his bow out and aimed before the creature was even aware of the dangerous situation it was now in. Kenji, however, was not by Jeldar's side, he could be found creeping around to the back of the bush, to trap the creature so that it could not escape. A sudden startled scream and a tiny creature ran out of the shrub and right into Jeldar. "What manner of creature are you?" asked Jeldar, "Speak!" "I am a pixie! Don't hurt me!" said the startled creature. "Why shouldn't I?" asked Jeldar as Kenji came back to hid side. "I want your name, creature, and your intention!" Jeldar slightly shook the pixie for a little more drama "My... my name is Tephanis!" the pixie finally managed to say, although it came out sounding more like a squeaky gear than anything else. "Tephanis, hm? Well, perhaps I can share my camp with you tonight. I have dire need for someone of such short stature." "Of course, my lord, I would be honored to serve you," squeaked Tephanis. "It is in your best interest not to attempt to escape, my companion, Kenji, already has your sent, you would be hard pressed to avoid recapture," said Jeldar casually. The pixie gave a quick nod, and the two spent the night talking of their recent adventures. The next day would hold many more surprises, and perhaps, some misery.
