Posting images: A complete walkthrough!
This thread was written by Captain Arne Is PRO in attempt to help the newer users learn about forum use. In this guide, hopefully you will learn, if you do not already know how to post images in threads.
*NOTE: THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A LOT OF WORK TO POST AN IMAGE, IT IS NOT! A LOT OF EXTRA INFORMATION IS ADDED IN THE CASE THAT SOMEBODY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE HOW TO USE BASIC SOFTWARE!
Table of Contents
1. How to get an image from Guild Wars onto your computer!
2. How to get an image from your computer to the Internet!
3. How to get an image from the Internet into your post!
1. Getting an image from Guild Wars onto your computer!
First, look at whatever image you wish to add to your post. If you wish to post the stats of an item, hover your cursor over the item. When you have your screen looking the way you want it to look, simply press the Print Screen button (see below diagram).
The image is now stored on your clipboard and also in your Guild Wars directory, most commonly c:/program files/Guild Wars/screenshots. The problem with uploading images directly from your Guild Wars directory is, the images are saved as .bmps. Bmps are a lot bigger in size (kb) and take a lot longer for people with slower connections to load.
To help those people out, open up a simple program like Microsoft Paint (MSPaint). Paste the image by pushing Ctrl + V. If you wish to crop a particular part of the image, use the crop tool to select that part and copy it again by pressing Ctrl + C. Open up another MSPaint window and paste the cropped version of the image there.
Now, you’re ready to save the image. To save space, we’re going to learn how to save as a .jpeg, using these simple diagrams.
Step 1:
Step 2:
VOILA! YOU NOW HAVE YOUR IMAGE SAVED ONTO YOUR COMPUTER!
2. Getting an image from your computer to the Internet!
To ‘upload’ an image from your computer to the Internet, simply find an uploading site, such as www.imageshack.us, click the browse button, find the image you wish to upload, and click ok.
You now have the picture uploaded, in a miniature form, it should look like this:
If you want to post the image in its entirety, follow these next two steps:
DONE! THE IMAGE IS NOW UPLOADED ONTO THE INTERNET!
3. Adding the image to your post
To add the image to your post, simply follow these instructions:
1. Click the button labelled “1”
2. Add the Address (URL) that you copied in part 2 to the field labelled “2”.
3. Click ok, button labelled “3”
CLICK SUBMIT NEW THREAD, AND YOU ARE DONE!
Any further questions may be PMed to me (Captain Arne is PRO). I will answer them as soon as I get the time to.

Nice guide...shouldnt this be on the screenshot forum o.o
.-. My guildwars saves things as bmp, not gif. And gif is not always big, its just big because GW type images are not optimized to be used by the gif format.

Had to add some humor. Being new at things can be frustrating. :P

Also, some alternatives sites include photobucket.com, which doesn't have annoying popups. Free hosting and no popups what is this world coming to.

Is there any way to make Guildwars save pictures in different formats than BMP's?
Nice newbie guide btw, I hope many people will have learned something.

I like photobucket but I rarely post any images so I always forget my username and password.

Good thread.
Minor thing though.. on the Imageshack website there is a direct link to the image. Which is easier to use then finding the image link by going into properties.
Also you can just use the hotlink for forums (1) which is even easier because it posts the image already.
But other then that.. Good tutorial

How's about the actual code for phpbb 2.0.21 boards?
How would somone go about linking their image manually? (eg; without advanced controls..)

Do all of these art things that people seem to buy have to be hand drawn???
becuase i'd love to get into this stuff, partly for the money but still.
And i am haorrible at drawing but i can do some wicked graphics work using photoshop
so i was wondering if you count that as artwork on this here forum?
chach out some of my work here, the best work is in the signature folder:
