He mentioned in mid-May that he was moving. Did he get moved? I certainly hope is was issues with moving and not the latter. A lot of effort and time went in to tohse drawings.

Must be one heck of a move. He said he was moving to another state; maybe he decided to move to Alaska from the continental U.S. by truck or something. Ah well...added him to my friend list, I'll harass him if I see him.

I hope this is resolved soon(I'm sure it will be). It can sometimes take ages to get connections up and working as some ISP's and telco's can make you wait ages for installation. I'm sure this is the case, in this case.
Delays etc will damage other contests that people might like to run in the future as well as frustrates the artists who spent so much time working on things.

To be fair, when the contest started ectos were worth almost twice what they are now. It may be the case of "Oh great! I can't afford to pay what I said I would! I better lay low for a while."

I really hope that's not the case. As an artist who put wor into this competition, I'd much prefer the host to come out and say "Sorry guys, due to an unexpected deflation of GW gold, I can't afford to pay what I originally set out."
I think it would be perfectly acceptable to scale the prizes down a bit, gold is probably worth around 2/3 maybe even 1/2 of what it was when the contest started, and I think most people would understand a downscale.
What artists and art lovers won't stand for, is a cut and run. It will not only destroy emik's reputation (I very much doubt he'd ever get another commission again) and would also dent the confidence of artists in future commissions.
Having said this, I don't believe Emik has done anything of the sort, I think it far more likely that there are extenuating cicumstances, and he's probably just as annoyed that he can't finish the competition, as we are.

*agrees*
I enterd because I like drawing, not for the prizes. (okay prizes are nice, but I just wanted to enter a competition, this was the first I found here on guru XD)

Wow, so many people want that gold and all so much better than me... I'm not that competitive so I guess I won't enter. But I like seeing all the commissions though.

It isn't as many people as Sectus had in his first "WTB Commision" contest. There were 64 entries in all for that one. Some of those entries were absolutely stunning. The Sanra/Shan contest had more than that.
Still hoping to see this resolved soon

This really bothers me. I wanted to have a contest as well but this one and another that seems to possibly be ending the same way (on GWO) have me concerned that artists will shy away from future contests.

You might want to do a joint contest with Sectus or maybe even we could get a full group contest with the OGAWC, but yeah I dont know how willing artists would be for a contest from someone that hasnt run a contest before.

I'd consider that if the concept of the contest wasn't the way it is.
Ah, heck, I'll just go ahead and have the contest I think. Maybe I can post a screenshot of my storage vault or something so they know the money is there. I don't post a lot on guru but do on GWO (because I 'found' GWO first). I don't know if post count will make me more trustworthy or not but I know I'm trustworthy and so do the folks who've done commissions for me already.

I'd still enter a contest. I'd be doing art on my own even if there were no incentive, and doing it for a contest doesn't hurt anything--even if the sponsor ends up bunking off. I'm like Yannick, I guess--"I enterd because I like drawing, not for the prizes." I think you'd probably still get plenty of entries if you did a contest commission, if from only the Yannicks.

Well, saw Emik online this morning, no response to my polite questions.
Sad to say it, but looks like it was a cut and run
[EDIT]
Just got the following response (funnily enough, minutes after making my first post)
Quote:

Too convenient. Now I'm pissed off that someone would take advantage of the wonderful artists we have here.

Wow this is really bad, takes advantage of artists and then makes a stupid excuse when he gets found out.
I hope this is a bannable offense and I hope this guy gets his IP address banned from every GW forum out there.
