Im very interested in making a music video and i have a great idea for it..

Im wondering, if i am only going to share the video with others on youtube and not sell it, do i have to get agreement from the composer of the song. From anet for recording part of their game?

Cause this guy said he got permision from all osrts of ppl...

Lol...? I just started watching the music video you posted a link to and it hardly has any editing in it. What's the point in that I wonder?

Generally people don't go around asking for permissions to make fanvideos etc. Big game companies don't have time to answer small requests like that. Big companies also very rarely stick their noses in fanworks copyright infridgements because it's hard to control and would be bad PR for them and they want their fanbase to be happy and enjoy making fan things so don't worry about it and just make your video. You can put "respectful" credits in it.

It always depends on the local laws, but I assume they're basically the same in most places.

Here in Germany it's like this: If you make a song availible for download without permission, you're violating copiright laws. It doesn't matter if that song is part of a video, a mp3 you put on a filesharing network or if you're selling ripped CDs int he street. People have gotten into trouble for music videos, a recent and well known example would be the "Heeding the Call" video by Jack McDaniel / FoS, I'm sure most people on this board know about it. He was forced to take the video off the net.

Bottom line is, if you want to make a music video, either get permission to use the music or use unlicensed/free songs.

Wow...he took the promo video, and put another song over top of it...and you like it?

Technically, you'd need written permission from the owners of the music to use it in a video. Realistically, you can use their music in a not-for-profit homemade fan video, and they'd prefer if you gave them credit. People always ask what song that was on Youtube comments, and I'm assuming it would get more people to listen to/buy music from that group.

Hell, I've made videos with copyrighted music, put credit right into the video itself, and still had people asking me what songs they were.

As for the Heeding the Call video...what I'm thinking is that the lead singer was portrayed as a woman in a dress, and that pissed off the real dude. I mean really...

That video was kinda weak anyway, IMO.

Actually, as far as I know neither the band nor the record company were involved there, but the GEMA ("Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights").

Realistically, no one cares and there are plenty of reasons why.

My theory is that the video was pretty much too well made, exceeding the normal popularity of fan vids in general and that's why it might have been seen as some sort of a threat. Perhaps it was seen as more of a professional video than a fan video. It could have become commercial or hurt the band's image "brand". If you think about it that video relies heavily on the content offered by the music. The visuals can only do so much and the music is really key in this case.
