I haven't read a lot of the text on this page but something just kinda jumped out on me. Someone suggested putting commission pictures on the mag OGAWC style. Putting commission works on the magazine should imo be treated with a bit of caution. Just a reminder that the artists still hold the copyrights of the artworks to themselves(at least partially since it is fanart) and that some might not agree to them being "published" and .pdf is such an easily publishable/printable format.
Anyway just a thought. I don't mind personally and this is a fan publication and should be fun like that. Great idea IMAU and good work. I am mostly looking forward to getting to read some fun and interesting articles in the future! I'm no writer myself but many people here are very talented.
My suggestion is that the deadlines for the first publication shouldn't be too strict. Let the first one be a quality piece of work well put together with time and be publieshed when it is ready. If any design/layout craftery for articles etc. is needed I'm also a volunteer as long as I'm not swamped with school/work.

yup i sorta covered that point in the previous post: "This of course might involve getting consents from artists".....but then again, it might be better to put this away until the mag has...urm....'stabilised' in all those aspects that IMAU put up first. I haven't been able to get on GW lately due to uni work....but i'll try to get the words out to my alliance when i do.

PDF is the safest way to go as long as there's a disclaimer included with each one. Just pretty much along with the usual copyright info about the game, add a line about fan artists and say that you do not intend to publish hard copies of the document. It's entirely up to the readers what they do with it at that point, but you could have a line about not publishing for redistribution or commercial purposes. That should keep you safe and then if anyone does, that was them going against the rules, not you. For your side of it, you're not technically publishing anything. It's the equivalent of sending someone a well-documented term paper over the internet that happens to be about GW. I think you're probably pretty safe.
I think it will be fine. As these guys are saying, don't rush. Get a feel for the flow of material you'll be getting to set the pace for release. Might have plenty of good stuff before Halloween.

Yup .PDF is the way to go. Since no one can actually steal the photo (At least I don't think... ), I will of course give as much credit where it is due. I will link to as much As I can... Most Images are protected under the Creative Commons license (which I will also be using.. ) and I therefore can't publish them commercially legally without consent from the owner.. Which I'm getting anyways. I still have to figure all this out, but I will make sure everything is safe before I tread over it...
As for deadline, My main goal is to just get it out before Halloween. the 26th is optimal so that I have at least 2 days to make sure Everything is looking great and ready to be published.. Kind of rough, but believe me if I don't set a deadline it is a lot harder.. Believe me, Media club at my school fails at this and it is the one thing I hate about it...

Hey Guys, And those stalking this thread, I finally got a basic template created. Check it out, It will be added to the main thread as well.
URL: http://wetwilly92.googlepages.com/BasicTempletecopy.jpg
Any Critique on the template itself (a.k.a. the design, Not the text. I realize there is "blah" all over the page..) is happily accepted.

What is your screen resolution? The layout is fine on my widescreen, but on my laptop the pictures are cut in half in order to get the font size legible. Not really a problem, because most of the time I don't need to look at the picture until I've read the text, so I can just scroll over. If you have features that rely on the images more to get the objective across, you'll want to place them on the left so people scroll to the text at the right.
The colors are good. The font might be a little bigger, but if you go too big that's gonna be a pretty big file for people to download. As it stands you can fit a great deal of info in the text boxes, so that's good.
I give it 8 of 10, just because I'm not sure which one would be easier to adjust, the picture position or the font size. Like I say, it's fine on a widescreen, so alot of people aren't even going to have that problem.
Will you be keeping the color scheme for the whole magazine or maybe slightly different colors to differentiate between articles or the type of article? Either way is cool. I'm sure you can include bookmarks to pages, but if you go with the different colors people can skim through the thumbnails to find the article they were looking for and have the chance to notice something they missed before on the way.
Sorry, technical writing has saturated my brain this semester.

I love the layout! Course I naturally like anything dark so it doesn't hurt my eyes =]
Then again, if it's dark it takes TONS more ink to print out if people wanted to. Overall I like it, Since this is in PDF format people with lower resolution will be able to zoom out for a full few.

Some advice, if I may, concerning the layout. If you're aiming for a magazine look, you might want to consider breaking up the text into columms. You can also try spreading the images, and quotes across the different columns. It should break up the page, and make it a bit more interesting to look at
He's an example knocked up in photoshop, using the article I did ;D

Yes sir, we are indeed. Deadline is this Friday, Expect the first release as soon as Monday. I've been really swamped this week, devoting almost all my computer time to School, but I should be able to get a lot done this weekend... Unless I play GW all weekend..
