A visitor from Cantha
"Almost there, we rest here and the move on." the guide told me. Odd fold these dwarfs but I could get used to them. Yaks Bend is filled with people running around, asking for directions or a place to sleep. I see a Warrior heading out of this place, his armor is thick, and covered with charr hides, and then I noticed that I was getting cold. No wonder I am standing there with my thin Robes made out of red linen. "Is there a place I can sleep where it is warm" I asked my guide. He nods and points at a tent near the fire” I’ve reserved that for the people I guide". As I thank him and walk to the tent I grab the scroll from my bag and read it again, my finger goes to one sentence in particular "do not promise help in any way from Cantha." then I look up and see a human family dressed up in thorn clothes standing in the cold. “No help for these people? How could we not help", for a moment I hesitate since I don’t want to freeze to death, but then I decide to give my resting place away to this family. After many thank you and a little gift (a bag of 10 gold pieces, I placed it back in there stash when they where asleep), I went to a less comforting place to sleep, it was warm, but those Yaks smell.
The next morning as I get up my guide was already awake.” are you coming or do you want a fancy breakfast", he mocked me, again! But then again I might not have been the easiest traveler he had to guide. As we walk out of Yaks bend and kill some Stone Summit dwarfs we arrive at the boarder of the mountains. "Ascalon Foothills" my guide said. And as I watched over the barren wastelands I couldn't contain myself. "Curse the five! How could they have let this happen?” My guide looked up to me, "don’t curse your gods lad, or they might let it happen to you as well". With the thoughts of Shiro, I smiled at him and said nothing.” I’ll bring you to the statue of Grenth, there you will be on your own, not going into that hell hole".
As we arived at the statue of Grenth and my guide walks away I look at my map. "Ok I am here now and I have to get there, now I need to find some one to help me get there without dieing." I decided to wait at that statue, I spoke with an Artesian that had taken up residents there, and he told me traveling warriors came by there often. And luck was on my side, after 3 hours of waiting a young Krytan warrior named Hezar passed by and after asking if I could come along he told me he would love the company. The way was dangerous, creatures I had never seen before live here. Big three headed dragons, Golem like creatures. I've also met face to face with a charr...or well only his face, and now I got a blood stain on my robes. "sorry" Hezar said while he laughed at me holding a charr head.” the blood isn’t the problem, I cached a head, that isn’t like me" I said as I threw the head away.” these charr are vicious aren’t they?" I asked, already knowing the answer. "Yes they sure are, I am glad we where not invaded" He replied.
As we walk on and slay countless of beasts we arrive in Ascalon City, where I am welcomed by Sir Tydus. "Welcome to Ascalon City" he said while shaking my hand. I looked around and then at Tydus and my face turned Grim.” so much death so many destruction, I have heard about this many times but to see it is so much more devastating". Tydus didn't reply, he signaled me to follow and I did. We went out of Ascalon, with a battalion of soldiers and walked towards the capital." Rin was attacked some time ago, but a brave group of heroes together with the Flaming Scepter, prince Rurik and the aid of Stormcaller the charr where defeated". Rin did indeed suffer allot, as I walked trough the old city gate I did not see any building left in one piece.
In Rin I was told to wait in the middle of town, before me was a long stairway. As I waited I looked around, seeing that there where no people living in Rin anymore. "Wonder what happened to them" I said out loud. A voice responded "My ex-son took them over the mountains, to Kryta!" at the top of the stairway a man appeared, wearing a crown.I kneeled down, and “King Adelbern I presume”? The man walked down and spoke "Yes king Adelbern, and you must be a Canthan ambassador? What business does the Canthan Empire have in Ascalon?".”I came on a good-will mission, to show our support in mind to those of Ascalon". The king stopped and looked at me, "Support in mind? SUPORT IN MIND?!" he yelled, and I understood his anger. "We are being enclosed by charr day by day and the Canthan empire send there support in Mind?!” he yelled.” I agree with you King, but we have suffered great losses as well, and still are fighting Afflicted creatures that roam our city streets every day’s said while looking up.” yes this Affliction, I have heard of it! Nothing more then a small disease!" he spoke. I got angered by these words but kept my manners "I am sure that the Emperor would send aid if he could." "Hahaha yes ofcourse"the king said laughing, "That’s why we are now standing here while the charr could charge us any moment, because the Emperor would send help if he could". I had to keep myself from yelling when I reacted to these insulting words "I am sure tha..",the king interrupted me "You are sure about what?! That you are here on a useless mission? I mean even you can't fight! You had to hire people to get here!” I realized that Adelbern did have a point, Canthan did not send anything useful to Ascalon, only empty messengers and crates of good-will gifts.” Be gone! I do not blame you, but I will not be open our doors to empty messages of paper-pushing ambassadors". The King turned around and walked of, an I was left there in a ruined and empty city.
As I walked trough the ruins of Rin I kept wondering why these people still fight for these bunch of bricks and dont just head over the mountains. I found my answer on a hill outside rin."This is Hornhill" a voice told me. I turned around and a man in a long black robe, his hood was down and I could see his face. His face looked old, and battered, as if told me about many warstories."This horn you see is Stormcaller, it was suppose to be our salvation, but I didn't help much", I looked around and wondered where the horn was that this man spoke of, and then I noticed the mouthpiece. Carefully I walked to the side of the hill to take a look, and I was stunned for a moment by the size of the horn.” It’s big, isn't it" I said while putting on a weak smile. "Yes, yes big indeed, but not powerful enough, but we still fight to protect her and the ruins of Rin" he said while walking over to the mouthpiece.” But why?" I asked, "Why do you fight for something that is lost?”. The man looked at me and seemed to be amused.” it might be lost in your eyes, but it’s not in ours" he said while walking to a spot where you could view the city.” everything that is not in the hands of the charr is something that is not lost to us, and we Ascalonians still have something called Pride and Honor, this is after all our Capital”. For a minute I wondered if I would fight for Kaineng if it would fall under siege, but I did not have to think for long. "I understand, if my capital or my country would fall under siege I would fight for every square inch of land as well". We both stood there looking over the city, and after a while he turned around and walked down the hill, "Come” he said” let us get to our camp, so we can rest and see what to do with you in the morning".
