Imagine - Ascalon City, Overgrown!
I've been taking a few glances at the Lore forums now and then, and I find the small tidbits of info and speculation on GW2 and the roles of the dragons quite interesting.
Which made me speculate and wonder, what if the dragons just want to get rid of all the other races? The only thing the Norn, Charr and Humans have managed to do so far is to destroy and turn against eachother. War and killing everywhere.
Then I started to imagine what kind of vision the dragons would have for a better place.
This is going to be the first of a long line of scenic CG work with this theme... untill Anet decides to give us some GW2 news that is
/ / / / / /
Then (for some reason) I wanted to experiment a bit with Texmod, in particular to change the city of Ascalon into something a bit less depressing. This is what I was able to make after 30 minutes.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2344/gw017no2.jpg
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/1281/gw018cw2.jpg
After about 1 hour of playing around and getting a hand of how Anet distributed and applied the different materials and textures, I was able to come up with this:
http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/427/gw024cm9.jpg
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1980/gw026oq2.jpg
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9060/gw027fq3.jpg
I'm still trying to figure out the more... lets say, "interesting" techniques that the devs used. ^^'
I'm also aware that some time ago, another user said that he wanted to attempt something simular... is he still around, or does anyone have a link to his thread?

That looks really nice, good work. Maybe later you could add some flowers? Teehee, might be a bit more work than necessary though.

Looks awesome to me, and this is how Ascalon should be. You'd think after 2 years it'd have grown back a bit. (That's 2 years after the searing...)

Looks cool, but I think that even 2 years later it'd still be barren. I the searing scorched EVERYTHING. Sure, there are some plants that grow back up very quickly after a burn. However, the fact that all of ascalon is still scorched and no good water (tar pits), I don't think anything will grow for a while.

Hmm, Well, we enter post-searing ascalon 2 years after the searing in Prophecies. And some vegatation can be seen growing, especially where all the pictures of the gods are. Now, almost 3 years after the release of GW (5 years post searing) I would suspect some more vegatation would start to grow.
Also, in-game time and real time is not the same. If I am not mistaken, the time between Prophecies and Nightfall is more then 3 years after?

The pictures look really nice. I especially like the one of the murals near Simon the Scribe - so pretty.

Those second ones are so nice, the ranger blends right in
Have any plans to release this on the Wiki? It's great and I'd love to have a nice green Ascalon again...

Awesome work so far. Although I doubt you can tweak lightning, definitely change the sky to a sort of cloudy but not necessarily apocalyptic hell-world sky like we have now.
Also, storywise, what ever happened to the idea of blowing Stormcaller nonstop to help bring in water and plants?!

Didn't Ascalon Die and turn to a Ghost town?
In GW2 Ascalon is literally a Ghost Town, The King did some Spell destroying both most of the Charr Army and all of Ascalon.
Same thing happened in Rin.
If I am not wrong.
Or this could be the Present Ascalon.
What if Ascalon would change if you Finnished Prophecies and Unlocked EoTn?

In GW2, King adelbern uses his magical sword to turn all of the dead soldiers into ghosts that fight against the Charr and keep them at bay. All the other humans flee either to the last human keep of Ebon Hawke or cross the shiverpeaks to Kryta. The ghosts attack any and everyone in sight.
Rin has become the capital of the Charr.
@ Tatile: Yes, I was going to release this on the wiki, but I just need to tweak one last thing before doing so.

Stupid depressing future of GW2.
The lore says that the ghosts will leave if the "rightful king of Ascalon" regains Adelbern's sword (or Rurik's).
I hope in a GW2 sub-story-arc, you find the "true king", and get a sword (preferably we go to RoF and loot Rurik's off his skeleton, that'd be cool), chase out the ghosts, and maybe also blow up the Charr. I WANT ASCALON BACK!

Very nice.
I love that first one in the new batch especially; it really does look overgrown.

Ah yes, someone brought that to my attention in GWO aswell.
Though, I was not trying to make a pre-searing post-searing ascalon ^^'
I was going for the "nature-taking-back-what-belongs-to-it" look.
