Photoshop=Expensive
Hello, I've recently gotten into taking screenshots and I'd love to have a way to edit them. I don't have Photoshop and it's too expensive for me to buy so I'd like to get some feedback on maybe some cheaper or even free editors. Any ideas or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

GIMP is similar to Photoshop, however you may need to flick through tutorials to get the hang of it. GIMP is free, or should be unless they changed it.
Also, depending on how legal you want to be, you can get Photoshop quite easily, but considering that you're asking for alternatives, I'll take it that you're not into torrenting.

Google has an image editing program for free. It's just basic stuff, but it's still free.
Can't remember the name of it though...
Found it, it's Picasa.

GIMP is good, I also recommend paint.net. Both of them are free to download.

I had forgotted about the price. My uncle always buys the latest stuff so we got PS 7 free from him when he upgraded.
I have tried GIMP, and I really really do not suggest it. Unless you plan on becoming a pro image editor, GIMP might not be worth all the trouble it is. It's pretty advanced.
Paint.net looks a bit easier from what ive seen, but I don't know about the features.

If you want to try out photoshop get their trial version. Its the complete thing, but only last 30 days or so.

Yep yep Adobe has trial versions, the best is CS2. You can find tutorials all over the net. Good luck.

Corel Paint Shop Pro X has close to the same functionality as the far more expensive Adobe Photoshop, if you are willing to pay for it (still kinda pricey, just not over the top like Photoshop is). If all you are doing is editing screenshots, however, you'll be better off with the programs previously suggested. I think Gimp is your best bet.
Also, every graphic art software lets you download free tutorials- test out all of them to see what you like. Sometimes an image editing software will sound nice, but will actually turn out to have a terrible interface, or some other problem that you discover during the free trial. I was going to buy Painter X as it seemed a better program for digital art than what I use now, but decided not to after discovering in the free trial that there was nothing Painter could do that I couldn't already do with the programs I'm already used to using.
Good luck with whatever you pick!
