Hiya Grey Fox :-))

As I said in our PM exchanges, I don't think my sketch will be one of your more popular ones with your many fans, but to me it is perfect and exactly what I asked for.

It reflects Hengis's character very very well indeed, and fits the brief I gave you exactly.

You are a great guy Fox. Thanks for putting up with the many changes I kept asking for!

Now for a quick question:

Wht would be the maximum size you would recommend printing the sketch at?

It is of course going to be professionally printed and framed and is going on the wall in my "den" along with all my Guild Wars posters etc.

Thanks again :-))))

If you're thinking of getting the thing printed, I'll upload the full working resolution file (3200x2400px). It's too big to fit on even the largest of desktops, and at such a high resolution, you can make out all the little imperfections. However, if it's going to a printer, it'll give you that bit more resolution to work with.

Stupidly Large Resolution Image Here!

As for the actual print size, if you were to print the full resolution version (the 3200x2400px I just linked) at 300DPI, it should come out around 10"x8" (27cm x 20cm). Now I'd say you could probably increase that a little to get a full A4 sized image (A4 being around 12"x8" or 29.7mc x 21cm), without noticing a quality drop. Of course, to fit the image on a standard sized piece of paper, some cropping would be needed. However, I think you could happily lose an inch or two from the top edge of the picture, without spoiling the composition.

As for enlarging it up to poster size, posters are generally A2 or A1. That's four times or eight times larger, respectively. Now I'm really not sure how well my sketch would hold up at those sizes. It really all depends on the distance you'll be viewing it from. If you're going to be sitting right next to the thing, I'd opt for smaller size. If it's going on a far wall, that you'll be seeing from a distance, maybe you could get away with it :P

[EDIT]

Hengis's Avatar and Sig, as requested

Thanks again Grey!

Testing out the sig and avatar now :-)

Thanks for the full res jpg too.. but I sent the damn file off for printing a few hours ago before I saw your reply. Typical me.. wait months, but can't wait another hour..

Well.. we will see how it comes out, if not then I will just have to get it printed again!

Not happy with the position of the sword at the moment... though I like the shield.

Obviously it's all rather rough, the face is especially so, but you get the idea.

hmm, the sword positioning still looks a bit...unnatural I think. Is she holding it by the tip? or is it sheathed and she is just supporting it? If I may I'd like to give a suggestion: I think having her hold it in her left hand and resting it on her left shoulder would look pretty cool.

disregard completely if you think I'm crazy :P

perhaps u should turn the sword a bit, or let it poke into her upper leg.

I would turn it so that it has a straight hilt..

Perhaps add something demonic to her face? (if the customer approves ofcourse)..

awesome so far

Looking good Perhaps you could even have the sword across the back of the shield...

Still not sure what I'll do with the sword, but as everyone's pointing out, it's not right at the moment. I've got it on a layer, so I'm just playing with it and rotating/resizing etc for ideas.

I'll post up a few different versions of the sword positioning at some point

I see where the sword is being held from, its like a leather strap on her side, right? I like that idea, since it shows the sword, rather than sheathing it up and hiding its gleam ^^

Just the hilt is a little off, its not center that could be why it looks a little off.

I like this position of the sword, its a relaxed stance rather than making it flashy. It is about the warrior...not her weapon.

I think the sword appears to be fine where it is at Fox. It does look like she is posing, and not a "natural" state of picture. So, if your goal is the posing image, then I think the sword is perfectly fine where it is at.

Gray, even before I saw your thread here, I have always appriciated your art on deviant, simply amazing. I just cannot do BGs like you do them. Of course your more educated in art that way, and I am what...17 years old. Well I have been drawing a with a little more passion since May 2006. I hope to post some GW stuff here later on (on a different thread of course). AGAIN, your work has inspired me to do GW. WOW, it is just so pretty to look at, especially the Abaddon/Kormir one, how did you do the blood? whoa...

I still do not understand how someone cannot make 100k? I played casually for 2 months in the beginning, finished prophecies with 2 characters and by the end I of the two months (summer) I had kanaxai's axe, edge, stonereaper and 2 90k armor on each of my pve characters, and I didn't really farm, just went through the game. But right now, I just have to study for the whole week, then do some HA with guildies and I have over 100k in one day (sigils FTW!!! prices are now 30k)

Hello Grey fox

Hope you are doing well - Im sure you're rolling in the dough with all the drawings you've been doing. Good work.

If I may, I'd like to point out just some minor niggles in your last warrior drawing.

If Im not mistaken you've chosen a low POV to look up towards the warrior. Try putting the shouldier piece a little higher so it just starts to cover the bottom of her face to emphasis that it is before her face in the field of depth.

Are you aiming for a full 'en face' for the sheild? If so make sure that the sides of the sheild are of equal thickness otherwise it will look as if you've made a mistake. If however you're going more 3/4 side on for the sheild make sure that one side of the sheild isnt symmetrical with the other, give it a curve to follow and ensure that the lines dont depasse the curve othewise the shield will look bent.

Keep up the good work.

Brgrds BSSuperman.

Wondered how long it would take someone to ask. :P

Thing is... the original idea was to have her wearing a skin tight black armour, but as with most of my characters I started doing the skin tones first. I just kept working on the image, all the time planning to add the armour later. However, it got to a point where I thought "hey, she looks pretty cool like that!". After all, she's an entity born in the domain of anguish, chances are, she doesn't need to wear armour at all, if she doesnt want to :P The young lady who commissioned it, specifically wanted a sexy picture, and I know she'll love the provocative aspect.

So basically, I still have her pants, and I've decided to keep them >_>
