Yes,I totally agree with that Grey Fox!
And yeah i guess that first post depends on the tone how you read it so...
Case closed! phew!
Oh and ranger has one leg? Its just on the other side...
Very interesting to see a drawing in progress. I think that last one is your best so far,you really improved from the beginnning...
...aah watching all these colors makes me cant wait for my tablet to arrive

The difference between the first and second lighting attempt on the Elementalist is dramatic! I am sure the constructive critiscism from BS helped a lot. I really think the picture is far better now than it was. The lighting is much more convincing.
If I may, I would like to comment on the Ranger/Moa drawing.
Personally, I dont see much wrong with the Moa's legs, but I do think the ranger's leg looks wrong. To me, his thigh looks too short and lacks definition at the top where it joins his hip. I think his shin/tibia/fibula are also too short. The overall length of his legs seems too short in proportion to length of his body. I don't know, but in my eyes something is wrong there with the proportions.
I am not an art critic.. just the next customer on Grey Fox's list and I also happen to have ranger that I would like drawn.
Regards,
Hengis

I think the low res preview doesnt do her face justice. Here's a small crop of her face, at full working resolution.
Now then, I have a Ranger and Moa bird's legs to attend to... where's my hacksaw.
[Edit]

Some of the biggest problems I've had with my works so far, have been visualising characters and their poses. In some of the images I've used photographs as a reference for the poses, I think that many of the problems with Unlucky Slayer's ranger and moa, are because it was drawn without any reference material (you try and find a reference shot of a man firing a bow whilst riding an ostrich...!) Anyways, last night I downloaded a great program called Daz Studio. I was originally looking into buying Poser, however, for a budding artist such as myself, Daz is clearly the better option. It's free to download (and 100% legal), and comes with free models (a male and a female) in just the short time I've been playing with it this evening, I've managed to drag the models into the following poses!
Speaking as someone who gave up on 3DSMax, due to the insane learning curve, I can say that Daz3D is really easy to use, thanks to its "power pose" tool. basically, you click a limb, and drag it, and the whole body moves appropriatly. There's a simple "pin" system, where you can lock certain joints, so that dragging the limbs doesnt affect other parts of the body. Once you get the hang of it, it's really intuitive, it's like playing with one of those old wooden artists models, only with accurate 3D people!
Now the reason it's free, is because you don't get any textures, cloths, or hair pieces with the models, if you want those, you have to buy them seperatly. So for 3D rendering, your models would look rather poor. However, for anatomical study, and visualisation, it's brilliant!
If you're an artist drawing the human figure, I can't recommend this enough, I think it's going to make my life SO much easier!

oh they are all so nice
I don't see why people focus on the legs of the moa or that one leg is behind the moa, however the ranger's left shoulder looks like it's detached somehow or I'm just not looking at it the right way, which is very possible, but to me it looks like the shoulder is too far from the body and a bit too high.
Then again, they are all better than anything I could do atm

Heh heh. Nice. Does it let you play with lighting the way poser does though?
Before i got poser, i was using Simpose, a free posing program for The Sims models/skins as my posing program.
I also have several figurines i use for posing (a spiderman action figure good for marvel style, a dollfie awesome for anime-style, a microman, and yes...that wooden manneiquin thing)
Daz3d looks nice, good find, really for posing, i dont need hair/clothing.

it does indeed let you choose lighting. You can place individual lights, and set their colour, direction, intensity etc. However, to be honest, I havent really played much with that aspect yet.
[Edit rather than adding extra posts)
It went through a lot of changes and tinkering, but here's the final version for 84-175s ele, Isadora
Full rez version can be found HERE.

Hehe, not likely, I'm not a one character kind of person, and that's the only way I can see myself justifying having a set of FoW. I'd much rather spread the wealth around all my characters, and give them all multiple sets of armour ^^.
Having said that, I "would" like a Tormented Sword for my monk... hmmm...

Hi Greyfox
Ok upto the 3rd 'final' version? Heh heh I once spend over 3 years on a painting (trying to) getting it to the 'final' stage and then decided to throw it away and start again. Damned human figure. beh!
I happy that you like what you've done. I'll stand by my 'opinion' that it could have been more zazzy with more contrast, but as long as the client is happy. And Im sure that everyone here can agree that the picture you done is indeed very good quality. A good picture always shows if the artist has enjoyed himself....... herself.
If I may allow myself one thing about the ranger. (then Ill leave you alone ) The guy is sitting on a Moa bird right? that means theoretically there is a physical body between his legs off around 50 - 70 cm in width. His legs should be ecarted to represent this. Also try elevating his thighs (knees) by around 15-20 degrees higher. Then you can bring the ankles higher up to show him balancing on the Moa's body. Unless hes squeezing that Moa bird like an orange for juice he may find himself sliding off its tail feathers. Also you may find thinking about making him hunching his shoulders a little forward, this will make his body hunch oer the Moa and (should) make him appear to be moving at speed. although I dont know how this will affect the firing posture. Try looking at photos of horse riders or jockeys to see how they sit on a saddle. This may help you to visualise how you can straddle a Moa. (did I say one thing...koff koff)
I hope this doesnt sound arrogant in anyway. Again this is in the spirit of constructive critiscm. Keep up the practise.
Best regards Paul

Well, it truely is the final version now, since 84 has said so >_>. From an artistic point the darker high-contrast version was more "correct", however, as 84 rightly pointed out, he had commissioned a character portrait, not a study in shading. I think the final image is a nice ballance between interesting character/background shading whilst preserving the details or the body and armour.
In regards to the ranger, lots has changed since the last sketch, I'll upload a new version soon As for your criticisms, they are well thought-out, and much appreciated, feel free to post as many of them as you like.

If you consider the time spent of the artist vs a farmer's total time to reach 100k, 100k is not enough.

well over 70% of the players in the game do not have 100k... think about it.
maybe its easy for someone who Farms non stop. But casual players dont have the time or want to put forth all their effort into boring farming.
