Lablo, a Guild Wars Machinima by 4D
I don't like the post name, because with my luck that'll change the name of my movie. It's Lablo! Just Lablo.
This is my Lablo thread, I'm here to get some support and more viewers. Everyone has friends that they play Guild Wars with, well my Guild Wars friends have refused to help; think it detracts from gameplay, are PVE fanboys and refuse to do PVP, GVG, and even challenge missions unless they absolutely have to. Anything like puppeteering or shooting in game bores the heck out of them and my every attempt has been very painfull.
Very specifically, my buddy Steve helped cowrite the basic plot, it was going to be a comic strip, and was originally more of a comedy, and kind of flowered out from there to what it is now. We'd talk about Lablo because we talked about Guild Wars when we weren't playing it.
But the Machinima now is entirely my own work, I give him no credit except ownership of the original Rascha Litch. In the future he may help with some shooting, but I've had to go so far as to delete my own characters and make two characters that look like his so I could continue on with the plot. That's one reason Rascha isn't in Episode I.
I make no apolagies for that explanation. That predicament has turned Lablo into exactly what it is today and someday when Lablo gains more fame this will be the very introduction to how the process of making Lablo came to be.
Lablo, in this game universe means Blood Oath. It's the discovery of necrotic magics that require the cutting and the defacing of one's own body to produce magic. The ultimate form of this form of magic, of course is Litchdom and Vampirism, both of which will eventually be 'unearthed' as new forms of necromancy. That's the explaination of the title, anymore would be spoiling the storyline!
I will say though, that 'Lablo' was the word that my little sister used to use for Diablo, when she was too young to say the name of the game Steve and I would play all the time :P
So anyway, that's a long explaination, and actually, I'm very satisfied with it, some of that stuff is just too in depth for a Youtube video explanation, nobody reads those because they're busy watching the video. I
suppose I need to work on a title, and a poster for Lablo now that I'm here, and actually I have a question about that. Is there a way to take a snapshot from your project in Sony Vegas 7? Because I haven't figured out how to do that, and an in game snapshot won't cover what I have in mind.
So anyway, here are my vids, watch, critique, but don't be too hard because I didn't have Vegas when I made these. I will be working on a 'remastered' episode one and two, but that's a whole seperate project. That being said, keep in mind that all comments like "not good enough quality video" "I can't see what's happening" or "what happened to the sound" will be completely ignored, because Vegas records in high def, and power director, didn't.
Powerdirector also had big problems with adding a sound track, it only lets you add two tracks at a time, so by the time you reload and add another track and have done so 7 different times, the sound effects and music overlap the voice in ways you didn't really intend, and with power director there was no way to prevent that but to start over.
The new intro was done in Vegas to give you some idea of what episode III will look like.
The last problem, of course, is health bars and damage points flashing in the movies, and this is the final problem I've had with doing everything on my own so far, and that's why I'm recruiting help. I also need a solution to somebody else recording Ashira for me. If somebody else is the cameraman and uses fraps, how do they get the footage to me? It seems like the clips would be too big to go through email...
If anyone's come up with a solution to this problem please let me know. In episode three the interface system shows up far less than the first two episodes, but the final solution is to take away the problem completely by having the camera man target and attack nothing.
That question was mostly for the Kiti/Tidus or anyone else who has done this stuff before. They end up being 20-50 megabytes a file, so how do you guys deal with that?
The last thing is actors/voice acting. I need some commitment from anyone volunteering, at least two or three episodes, unless you just want to be an extra (there are a few scenes where I need to show like 10 people fighting a battle together) and for voice acting, atm I have my sister doing the voice of Ashira, and she's getting tired of it as she's not much of a budding actress and not into Guild Wars at all.
Though that would be a lot longer role than anyone wanting to do filming, it would be far easier to do, as I'd send you lines and you'd record them and send like two or three MGbyte files back to me via email. It may seem like a lot to take on, but if anyone's looking for a break as a voice actress, this could seriously be it. Anyone interested in filming, leave a comment on here and we'll schedule filming times on Guild Wars. Anyone interested in voice acting, we will need to exchange emails.

Hey 4D
Just saw the intro and love how much you've grown with your editing eye and camera work I'm limited for time so I will just skim thru some of the questions you have or comments you've made where I think I can be of help
I believe through Trial and Error you can turn the option off within your graphic controls to not see health or damage in the game...not totally sure as I myself have yet to make time to check my theory.
As for swapping film and audio with someone I use zshare.net to transfer files - it's free and u don't have to sign up but tread carefully cuz sloppy clicking will get u pummeled with lots of ads. They can choose to give you a download link, a forum link or a direct link to the file and it stays stored for 60 days.
As for voice acting requests I recommend you post some of the script so anyone interested can give you a sample of their voice and voice acting capabilities. However I HIGHLY urge you to be careful choosing in the case of someone dropping out of your project (like get ALL of their v/o's that u will need at once) so you or your storyline don't suffer if they become disinterested. I also recommend you post your info in the GWVM group site as well as JakeBatchelor's channel page to drum up actors
Best wishes with your series!

Hysteria by Muse. I love all Muse's stuff. His voice is kinda... haunting? It's like the perfect necromancer music.

Thanks Kiti, seriously, you're advice has gotten this project off the ground. I'm in debted to you. Ima do exactly what you said, and come up with a few lines.
Ashira's character is kind of based on my sister's personality (her singing to herself in the beginning of Episode II, yeah that's totally my sister) if I had lots of choices I'd want to find someone who could act similar, but I don't exactly expect people to be banging down the door. But Kiti's right, it'll be better to run the voice audio over file shares and pms than over emails.
One thing you said Kiti, normally characters automatically pick new targets to attack on their own, and there is an option to turn that off as well as one to 'show names in pvp'. But if you pick a target there will be a health bar over their head and their name will appear, no matter what, as far as I've seen. That's just fine as long as you don't need to be the single recorder of a battle/don't need characters to attack. I could be mistaken, but I've looked pretty hard.
Another ESSENTIAL element to good camera work is the whole "Ashira enters from stage left." I HAVE to be able to at least a few camera shots where Ashira isn't in the middle of the screen. You can be clever and make it not look that way, but in the end, you can only go so far.

Gah bummer to hear about the health bar thing...my only guess is to try and position your camera to later crop it out in vegas...same approach with making your character seem to enter stage left/right with the panning option and a little key framing...best i can come up with if u rather not have someone else film or no one is available
So glad anything was of help - i wish ya the best of luck!

You can completely shut off your User Interface by pressing Ctrl+Shift+H (not sure on the shortcut, could be Ctrl+H or Shift+H, just try it out)
The videos are great, but you need to work alot on the sound mix, I couldnt understand a single word what was said in Episode 2 when the ele was talking. The music was way too loud for an (I guess) Important dialog. Keep the focus on the dialogs.
Other then that, the camera angles and edit were great, add more enthusiasm to the voice acting and make a decent mix of voice and music, and it's gonna be really great! Good luck!
Edit: Silly me, you meant the health bars that appear above the enemies and allies, not the user interface, duh. Unfortunatly, I don't know how to remove them, sorry. :S

Thanks for the feedback Leonora, seriously I love that kind of critiqueing. I don't fancy myself an actor, like... ever. But my sis and her bf were laughing at what I did with Rascha in episode 2... mostly just messing around, so I figured I'd keep it.
As for Oranth Ra's voice, I've seriously gotta work with him on being enthusiastic. He worked well 'cause he's got this unique frog like voice that I was actually going for, but it's definatly a 'work with what you've got' kind of thing. As for the sound, I don't think the sound fx/ voice/ music on Vegas will have any problems mixing right, it's interface is just that much more powerfull than powerdirector.
Lablo, the Official Trailer
Just posted a new video. Production time was way down on this one because I didn't have to wait two weeks on the voice acting. Episode three is done, but still waiting for another original score, and of course the voices.

So, with what me and Firefox talked about tonight, it sounds like we might be doing a trial scene in the near future. I'm going to work on the scripting that I need and more specifically the stage direction. I don't have any monetary incentives atm, sorry, just credit in my vids if you participated, but it could be a fun time. Anyway anyone interested in being in this scene, I will be posting a date for the shoot soon.
If anyone knows like a temple main anteroom or outside amphitheatre to shoot it at, let me know, preferably a guild hall area. (i actually don't know which guild hall my guild has, I'll be finding that out soon.) Tidus, Kiti, and Roc, I hope to see you guys there if you have the time :P I'll give you all your three seconds of fame if you do, and possibly more.
edit: umm that was more an expression than anything else, that sounded narcisitstic when I read it just now, if you gave me some time I imagine you'd be in my vid for quite a bit more than three seconds :P

lmao, i actually laughed out loud at what Rascha did to Ashira in the lake. Great videos, hope to see more. and as for your guild hall request, there is a necro guild hall that would be great for your video. ill check and see if any guild in my alliance has that hall and get back to you. Oh, and great music too. What's that song during the tension points where its all 'da da da DA da da DA da da da da DA dada" lol, not a very good description, but it sounds like final fantasy battle music.

My sincere apolagies. 'This video has been removed by the user' is a lie, and means that they rejected my video because it was 11 minutes. So I've spent all day shaving the video down, the links above should work about two hours from this posting time... I'd say the 10 minute video is about %80 as good as the original. Leave it to Youtube.
Edit: the links work as of right now, just tested them myself. Finally, I get to go to bed :P
